Lets say you were jogging and you looked down in a road side ditch and found a suitcase with $2million in it.

Is it illegal to keep it?

I know its not the right thing to do but what can you do legally if you wanted to keep it?

I'm sure I'll get some smart ass answers, but I'd like to here some serious ones as well if anybody has any legal experience.

You must have found one if you're asking if it's illegal

I would give 1 million to Favre and keep the remainder for my kids college fund.

If it was only $100,000, I would put it in my jogging shorts. $2,000,000, I would figure it was some of Billy Cannon's counterfeit stash.

You must turn it in and if no one claims it in x amount of time it's all yours.

2 mill might be another story though,FBI would more than likely get involved.

this is exactly what i thought. I think you can get in a lot of trouble if you dont call the police and give it back to them. After a certain amount of time I think you are considered the new owner of the lost stuff.

All depends who lost it...I know I would change some lives, especially if I saw on the news that it was a brink's truck....I would not turn it in, but I would be reading the local papers for the following week to see who lost it...

so you take it to the cops and if nobody comes by the station and says "did anyone turn in my 2mil?" in a certain amount of time its yours?

After that you can just drive though Wachovia and ask for a checking deposit slip?

Guess you'd have to call our friends at the Irs so they can get their piece then though huh?

Also if I was a cop (which I'm not and now you'll see why) You can bet your ass somebody WOULD come by that station and ask for their 2 million.

What if it's one dollar? Still call the police? Of course not. $5? Come on. $20? Noooo. $100? $200? $500. What is the cutoff point?

I'd take $1.49 and leave the rest there.

I'd use the $1.49 to buy a Gatorade at the 7-11. It is important to keep hydrated when jogging, especially in this heat.

I'd go to the police and say I found 1 million on the side of the road, and keep the other million. Still look like the honest good samaritan. How can they prove you didn't find it like that? Then I'd start figuring out how to clean it.

Sorry I would keep it all. Move out of town and go to Vegas and start the laundering. I know I suck but hell with 2 million in my pocket I will be a rich piece of crap not just a piece of crap with no money.LOL

Huge :lolBIG: that one might "turn it in" and then have it returned later when no one claims it.

This Topic or some variation of this Topic gets created three or four times a year at our friendly RxForum.

The answer of course is that you take the money to a safe place that is not your home and wait a couple years before slowly laundering it back into the community.

During the first few weeks you carefully peruse the news to see if there is some poor Orphans Home or CancerResearchCenter that somehow lost a big bag with $2million and in that case you take half and stash it an even deeper safe place; contact the proper authorities and report you found the bag, but there was only 1million in it.

You're an Immediate Hero and a couple years later when you've relocated to Costa Rica to buy into VIEJO DINOSAUR's sportsbook, you're a rich ex-patriate.
