PAUL Newman has finished chemotherapy and has told his family he wants to die at home.
The Oscar-winning actor was pictured being pushed from a New York cancer hospital in a wheelchair.
Yesterday, it was reported in America that Newman, 83, had only weeks to live and had returned home to his wife, Joanne Woodward.
"Paul didn't want to die in the hospital," a source said. "Joanne and his daughters are beside themselves with grief."
The source, described as a close family friend, said that the star had spent the past few weeks getting his affairs in order.
It was claimed that some of Newman's actions had caused tension among of his children.
"He gave a prized car - a Ferrari with his racing number, 82, on it - to a long-time pal," the friend said.
"The sudden move angered his children. It's especially hard for them to come to grips with what's going on.
"The word they've been given is that he has only a few weeks to live."
Newman married Woodward in 1958 and the couple have three daughters.
It was reported last month that he had been readying their oldest child, Nell, to take over his Newman's Own salad dressings company, the profits of which are given to a charitable foundation.
He also has two daughters from his first marriage to Jackie Witte.
Newman has so far declined to comment on his condition, apart from saying he is "doing nicely".
Rumours about his health surfaced in January. Three months ago, he withdrew from directing a production of Of Mice and Men in his home town of Westport, Connecticut.

Paul Neuman is an American treasure, a great actor and humanitarian for decades. I hope his last days are comfortable and painless.

I am sorry to hear that his daughters are already squabbling about his fortune while he is still alive.

I knew Nell Newman briefly back in 1979/80. We lived in the same small apartment building in Northampton, MA . Never saw either of her parents around and I would only see her on occasion. She also played the younger daughter in the movie "The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man-in-the-Moon Marigolds". She acted under the name "Nell Potts" and the movie was directed by Paul Newman and starred Joanne Woodward. It was/is a pretty depressing movie with outstanding performances. I once read that she and Paul Newman were originally slated to star in Paper Moon together, but for whatever reason it ended up being Ryan O'Neal and his daughter. She was never in another movie.

I'm aware that she covinced her father to open an organic division of his food empire and she's been successfully running that for several years, so it's not surprising that she be tabbed to take over.

I couldn't even imagine the terrible emotions a person must go through knowing full well they have only days to live.

Hang tough Luke.

Simply put, an American icon. His status as a film idol only masks what a great person he truly is. I never saw him use the super star attitude portrayed by so many other "legends in their own minds" in the film and acting industry.
After watching " Somebody up there likes me" as a kid, he was always my favorite actor.
God bless him and his family.
A true passing of the times.

The greatest living actor today. Not sure who will take that title once he is gone.

I'm not sure how he was able to stay so humble for all these years. Because, let's face it, he truly didn't have to be if he didn't want to.

Very cool WNO, anything of interest discussed along the way...

he was in town doing a show and called the pro shop . i answered the phone ( which i never usually did ) . we normally closed up at 6 on sundays , but he said his show wouldnt be over until 5:30 .

i said come on out , i'll play with ya . he was an honorary member . like i would have said no , if he wasnt....

for just about 3 hours all he did was crack jokes and ask me questions about my familly and my golf career .

he was truly interested in me .

in fact , i told him i was playing in a tourney the next day .

tuesday rolls around and i'm standing out front of the shop when a limo rolls thru about lunch time .

he hops out and see's me thru a small crowd of members . he blows thru about 12 people and comes right up and asks me how i played the day before in the tournament . we talked for about 5 minutes about it.

all the members were looking at me a little puzzled .

i never asked him for anything . when people ask me if i have a signed ball or picture i always say the same thing while pointing at my head .

i have everything i need right here in my memory bank.

great man . the world needs another few billion just like him.

I guess everyone has two sides to their personality...A friend of mine is a prop man out in California for a company that makes commercials for television. Back in the early 80's they were shooting a car commercial out in the desert, with Bob Hope as the spokesman...He had only a couple lines he had to say...They set everything up, and then had to wait over 4 hours out in the desert heat for Hope to show up...Finally his limo drives up...He gets out and tells the director that he's going to do this in just one take and then leave...No reshoots. Hope gets halfway through his lines, and fucks up..He then turns around, gets back in his limo and leaves...Needless to say, this commercial shooting lost alot of money that day because Bob Hope for some reason had a corncob stuck up his ass. I'm sure Hope was a good guy..Needless to say, like Newman he gave alot of his time for good causes...But like all of the actors and TV perosnalities my friend has told me about, they have HUGE egos.
