i'll be 46 in a few days .

i walk 4 miles on the beach about 5 days a week. i was playing singles tennis 2 to 4 times a week. need to get back into that . might start jogging part of that walk , but i know my knees will hurt.

i got myself out of shape for several years and now feel the pain of trying to be as active as a 25 year year old again.

my body hurts .

i played golf yesterday and feel a little sore . i play at a high level and can hit the ball as well as any club pro . so after a round , i can feel it in my back and neck.

just wondering what the old guys do around here .

I'm still in my 30's but I don't know why excercise in my 40's would be any different than now.

12 ounce wrist curls.

Kidding aside, my puppies are energetic, I take them out three times a day, that's good walking/chasing exercise.

Every play racquet ball or basketball? I'm not as old as you but i know what you're saying.

With me it helps if there is some competition along with my exercise. Just jogging or walking gets old quick.

I used to play flag football in college and that was awsome. They have leagues for old folks now too.

I know what you mean about the golf. you know you're out of shape when a round of golf makes you tired or sore.

I think this thread would get more responses if it was, "How may hours every day are the older fat phuks of the forum online?"

I am 47 and work out at least 4 days a week. I am a BIG fan of stretching before and after. I cannot do machines unless I have to for cardio. I prefer competition like raquetball or hoops for cardio. Dont lift super heavy any more but pay attention to the large core muscles and ad ab work and toe raises for calfs.
Its way harder to get back into it at our age so key is to start slow.

At our age, we need to pay more attention to nutrition and weight control in order to get the benefits of any exercise. That said, a lot of my friends swear by some resistance workouts along with low impact cardio (i.e. biking, swimming). I can tell you first-hand that you need to respect impact on your joints as I'm typing this from a horizontal position with an ice pack on my lower back.

probably the biggest mistake of the older guys ( myself included ) is to not work on their flexibility. its going to be the focus of my workouts from now on .

otherwise the days of me shooting around par will come to an end rather quickly.

I understand stretching is important too. However, I've learned that it's more important to do it after you exercise when your ligaments are warmed up. If you stretch too much when you're cold and tight, it's like grabbing a knot a tightening it and makes it harder to get loose.

I am 56+ and I do some type of workout almost every day. Walk-jog, bicycle, weights, stretching, and rigorous ab work. I am also blessed with good genes.

Never stretch cold muscles. More harm than good.

I got into hiking a couple of years ago love to walk on mountain trails or the wilderness with a backpack. Got into cycling and kayaking too.
What I like about these activities is that there is no waiting around for the four assholes to quit fucking around ahead of you playing golf. And you don't need a partner for these activities.Since i started these my resting pulse rate is in the 40's.

eat smaller portions of food ( except when at the RX bash then its a pigout) eat your biggest meal for lunch and eat a very small dinner as you will burn off more calories if you eat the gbig meal at the lunch hr

it works trust me ...and remember you can eat anything you want just eat in Moderation...

If you feel like a bigmac have 1 a week not 5

Taking everything into consideration, there is no better exercise than WALKING........plain and simple.

Try to walk 40-60 minutes a day at a very fast pace.........and do not overlook the importance of stretching and proper nutrition.

For supplements, I recommend a pharmacitacal grade type of fish oil and a good multi-vitamin/nutrition bar daily.
