When is this board getting Private Messages? Why hasn't it yet? What is the holdup?

Just curious, I'm just surprised since every other board on the net has it it seems like....

Who said we were implementing a Private Messaging system here at TheRx,com Forums to begin with?. I did promise to re-visit the issue with Rx.com Management soon but right now Rx.com General Manager Marty Jensen is out of the country (Canada) and will not be back until after the upcoming Rx Bash which will be over one week from today.

Once The Bash is over I promise to discuss the feasibility of implementing PMs here at The Rx. Our Tech Support team also has to be included in discussions in order to be sure that a PM system will not have any adverse effect on overall forum performance with the football season starting for real in approximately three weeks, the last thing we want to do is do anything that will cause the forum to navigate slower when football begins for real.

I don't think that will be a problem but we do need to check it out regardless if management gives the go ahead on PMs.

Also, personally I do not think that during The Rx Bash 2008 is the ideal time to implement such a major change to the way this forum funtions. The Rx has survived close to 10 years without PMs and I am confident we can go a few more weeks without any major problems.

I have promised to bring up the subject this month and I will, I ask all posters to be just a little more patient and I will have a firm answer as to our plans regarding PMs here at The Rx. Should we decide to install a PM system I am confident it will be in operation no later than September 1st 2008 (barring unforseen Tech and software difficulties). The key word there is if.

This will be my 4th Bash as head moderator and every Bash the subject has been brought up in management/moderator meetings and the last three times it has been voted to not implement a PM system.

However I will say that myself personally am open minded regarding the idea and I believe most of the moderators are also if not in total favor of a PM system they are willing to give the idea a chance to see if it works here at The Rx.

Bottom line is please allow us to get the Bash out of the way next weekend and then ask the same question.

FYI - any PM system (tech support permitting) will most likely require a minimum post count for any poster to be eligible to participate in the system. We are not looking for a PM system to attract individuals to sign up here just so they can PM our posters. I am talking about a reasonable number of either 500 to 1000 posts, which is a fairly easily attainable number of posts that would include a high percentage of our regular posters.

Contrary to what some people believe the Rx is not adverse to posters having a means to contact each other than email but we are quite concerned about shills and conmen using PMs to promote their agendas freely with no moderation in place to protect both posters and the Rx from scams, thus the need for the minimum post requirement. I know I can count of most on you to report shils and conmen so that fact in itself may be the argument that tips the scales in favor of PMs bing allowed to be implemented here at The Rx..

Many of you say you are never bothered at other sites that have PMs and that is fine but I am here to tell you from experience that it is a full time job keeping shils of all varieties from posting on our various forums as is. Already today I have banned two newbies who registered to try and sell Viagara to anyone interested here at The Rx..

The problem with that is that there is no guarantee what you will get, if anything, if you decide to send these online prescription drug peddlers (or other varous online merchants) money and personal information. The Rx. has no way of policing these online companies to insure they are honest for posters, so again it is a buyer beware situation if you purchase anything that is not offerd by a sponsor here at The Rx.com because you were sold by an unknown website or individual duing a PM contact.

Thanks, wilheim

I'd like to know the 1 reason managment has for not having it and voting it down. I can't see one reason not to have it.

You might feel that way but you are just one of hundreds of posters involved. Last year we ran a poll on this subject. "Have PMs yes or no" and the voting was almost exactly 50% for each side. I will try to find it and bump it up for you.

Give me a break. If you tell me everyone here at the RX only posts here you're nuts. We all know there are other forums and where we can find them. Some guy sending me a PM isn't going to sway me from posting here. That's kind of dumb don't you think? If you put out a good product then you have nothing to fear and please don't underestimate my knowledge about forums and PM's. I know what's up.

So, is it possible to give the people that want it the option of having it and the others don't have to have it?

They can't block what you say on PM.

Explain it to me and yes I have dealt with it. So I have a PM and get spammed by some promotion service and I report it to the mods and the username is banned. If a poster from another forum PM's you trying to get you over to XYZ forum you report them and their username is banned. Am I leaving something out?

It cuts down on posts.

Not so much the recruiting thing.

The forum tries to protect from touts too.

I for one am for the pm system here and will do everything in my power to get it turned on if you elect me your Forum Leader

But wouldn't you agree GJ that something one poster sends to another by PM is private so therefore it wouldn't be posted anyway if there is no PM system?

You are underestimating conmen, they don't just barge in and say hey I am 92-6 this month in baseball, it's more subtle than that. There are hundreds of newbies in the sport forums that are in some cases easy marks for these type of people. All Uno is saying is there more to opening up free access to 1,000 or so active posters than meets the eye.

Sure you have a good idea what is a scam and what is not but you are just one among many.

Take this newbie who ioined yesterday for example, do you know for sure he could not become a victim of a scam by a cleverly desgned PM sequence. Do you know for absolute sure he will email a mod and say I am being scammed?

No I dont agree. Many posts are made that would be sent privately if there was a pm system. Example is the thread started by bigbet about bonus whorring in Vegas...some of those would have been sent via pm...

Its mainly a deterrence against touts and recruiting. Scammers also use the pm system to prey on young college kids...and old idiots

Marty Jensen Steps Out From The Shadows
Christopher Costigan, www.sports911.com

shadowman.gif
Accountant, restaurateur, internet casino owner (MainStreetCasino.com, TwinAcesCasino.com et al.), and now sports betting portal owner (TheRx.com), Marty Jensen is certainly a man of all trades but at the same time he has always been somewhat of an enigma to the online gambling community....that is, until now.

In this first ever interview with Mr. Jensen, Sports911.com has worked in conjunction with Brian Cullingworth of Infopowa, a weekly newsletter covering the online gaming industry, as a means of answering the many questions gamers have in regard to Jensen. We've attempted to get behind the persona.
Speaking to Jensen, it is hard to imagine he is any of the things people over the Net refer to him as. A lot of the animosity thrown his way no doubt comes from his dealings with the country of Denmark nearly three years ago, something he now admits could have been handled much better.
Brian originally outlined a number of set questions that Sports911.com has attempted to follow to the tee with some exceptions. The first question, in particular, drew Marty's ire.
The online gaming persona "Marty Jensen" is widely perceived as being mysterious, uncommunicative and even somewhat sinister - can you give us some personal background on yourself?
Marty was quick to point out that he is none of these things, quite the contrary. Marty seemed most incensed by the suggestion that he is uncommunicative.
"I am very open and a good communicator," Jensen insisted.
Getting beyond that, Marty gave us some personal background information
<O:p>"I have three mistresses, I smoke crack every day and I love to swim naked in public pools."
No, No, No....Marty did not REALLY SAY THAT! We just figured that was what you were all waiting for.
In truth, he is a family man with a solid educational background.
Marty Jensen: I've had a public accounting practice for about ten years in Vancouver. I'm (also) in the hospitality industry. I have a bar and restaurant in Vancouver. This is all in conjunction with other stuff. We have the (online) casinos I'm sure you are aware.
Sports911: How did you end up involved in the online casino industry?
<O:p>Marty Jensen: What happened was six years ago I went down to Costa Rica to look at a land deal. This guy down there started talking about online gambling and it just talk off from there. It sounded pretty exciting. He seemed to have the contacts to set it up and I had the money so we started it in August 1999.
<O:p>Sports911: Are you as a Canadian concerned about running online casinos? We all know that your counterparts from the United States are a bit antsy over legal ramifications.
<O:p>Marty Jensen: Up here (in Canada) it is an entirely different mentality. Canadians are much more liberalized. You probably have seen in Canadian news, legalizing marijuana, gays can and do get married. In Vancouver, they just set up intravenous shops for guys with serious heroin problems with the thinking it will cut down on AIDS and of course Bush is not happy about our liberal attitude and that extends down to internet gaming. You never hear anything about trouble up here with exception of Starnet but that was supposed to have involved child pornography. It is a much more relaxed environment.
SEX LIES AND CUSTOMER LISTS
Alleged improprieties between one of Jensen's employees and the female owner of a gambling portal site have ruffled many feathers in the player community, particularly with a group of individuals who claim the female involved traded sexual favors for one of Jensen's online casino customer lists.
As the story goes, this portal owner was flown in to see the employee. She went down on him in a moving vehicle then the two of them arrived at the house proceeding to engage in sordid passionate Kama Sutra moves that would make even Mahatma Gandi blush with shame. The two of them did it everywhere, on the kitchen sink, on the back lawn, on the neighbors back lawn and every position imaginable. She had one orgasm after another, waking up everyone on the block with her screams of ecstasy. The sultry encounter was said to have lasted nearly seven steamy hours. Due to the fact that this is a family site, we will not get into any of the more graphic details.
Somewhere in the midst of this lascivious encounter, the employee is alleged to have provided this portal owner with the names and other confidential information pertaining to various players.
<O:p>Marty Jensen: I am 100 percent certain that there was no information passed from (employee name withheld) to this individual. I am also a player and play on internet casinos and I would be absolutely unhappy if I knew my information was being bandied about. We really go the extra mile in protecting people's privacy. There are only a few people with access to this information. If there is any misappropriation of this information, that person is terminated immediately, and that includes everybody. I've also known (employee name withheld) for 15 plus years and have known his family and he is - you may not always agree with him - but definitely a man with integrity.
<O:p>Sports911: But he did sleep with this girl right?
<O:p>Marty Jensen: Well, that is not necessarily a reflection of his integrity. That part did happen.
<O:p>Sports911: Here is the thing, are you saying that the employee in question didn't have that type of access?
<O:p>Marty Jensen: No, he had access, but there is no material reason for him to do that (which he is accused of doing). If he was going to try and profit from this information he would sell it to another casino owner.
There is no longer any business relationship with this particular individual (who runs the casino portal in question) anyway. I don't even want our casinos to be on her forum any more. There is just no longer any business relationship with this individual.

EOG has had PMs from the beginning, and I've never received one from a tout or any other type of solicitation.
