300 Million plus people and we can't even field a team that can make it to the medal round of the olympics. I am not asking this country to hoist the cup, but come on a team that at least is competetive beyond a game and a half.

We tied a Dutch team that was without the best Dutch players in the world.

How can a country have this many athletes, but can't produce a decent product in soccer.

And if the Road Warrior says it, it must be true..

Americans playing soccer in Europe are never ever seen be 99.9% of people in America. They could make 1 billion but we won't see them so young kids see Lebron, Kobe, Tom Brady, ARod and want to play those sports not soccer.

Right but why would an american want to be famous in Spain when they can be famous in their own country and live in their own country?

not only spain, La Liga (spain's soccer championship) is watched by more than half the world and a lot of ppls in the states are starting to follow it not not mention the premier league in england, so they wouldnt be famous only in the states but worldwide they would...take ronaldinho, beckham or zidane all known worldwide kids in africa, asia south and central america they all want to be the next ronaldinho and gotta say im not a soccer fan i rather enjoy a football or basketball game but thats the way it is.....

Same reason Kobe and Lebron are thinking about playing basketball in Europe.

First off, they are talking about going to Europe as a ploy to get more money. There is no chance Lebron spends a year in Europe. They want to get rid of the cap in the NBA and/or allow teams to sign their own stars for much larger contracts.

Second, i still don't see more than a handful of kids that even know what the Premier League is. That is opposed to 99 percent of kids that know about the NBA, MLB and NFL.

Yeah, there are a few kids that dream of being big time soccer players, but its the exception, and not the rule. So until that changes you won't see america excel at soccer.

Thread title of Soccer could have been replaced by- Golf,Tennis,Baseball,Basketball, and also Football if the International community had a desire to play that. Its what happens when you group think instead of think individually. Capitalism dosnt work as well as Socialism when it comes to NAtional sports either.

I agree the blew the game against the Dutch, but that is what seperates them from others. The Germans, Italians all hold leads.

As for the red card this morning, don't be fucking dumb ass next time and we won't be a man short.

Nigeria looks very good, I am not complaining about that loss per say, but even in the final game in the WC '06, we needed to win by 2 goals and we were playing as if we were protecting a 2 goal lead.

1. - As noted, Euro leagues pay for soccer as well as americans pay for NBA, MLB and NFL and the endorsement opportunities are there. My understanding is that they get a piece of transfer fees as well, which can be ridiculously high (Robbie Keane just transferred to Liverpool for something like $46m).

2. - They would want to be famous in Spain (or Italy or England or Germany) for the same reason Pau Gasol, Yao Ming, Dirk Nowitzki and Manu Ginobili want to be famous in the US. Because that is where the best in the world play and where they are known. Open your closed little minds, there is much east of the Atlantic and west of the Pacific. Europe is a pretty amazing place.

Don't judge American soccer as a whole based on 5 bad minutes of a U23 tournament, which is really all it was (the last minute of NED and the first 3 of Nigeria). While NED didn't have their best players, many of the best Americans were also absent. American soccer isn't comparable to American basketball or Spanish soccer, but it is anything but a disgrace. As long as it is essentially a suburban white kid sport it isn't going to rival either of those two but it is a mischaracterization to call it a disgrace.
