Just bought a new macbook and am having trouble setting it up with wireless network at families house. They have a wireless network that works fine with pc laptop but when I try using that network it will not work on macbook.

I was told should just be able to log on to network and enter password and it would work, but no. I tried using diagnostics on mac to set it up and it takes me through steps and asks me to restart modem, which I did. Then it asks to restart any other devices like router, firewall and ect. So I restarted the router and still nothing. It just tells me that others devices need to be restarted.

Not too familiar with computer stuff like this but is it possible who ever set up this network did it to only allow the pc laptop? I have no idea what to do and dont want to pay for someone to come out. Any help appreciated.

When you say "the network will not work" on the laptop, does that mean:

1) The macbook shows the network name in the dropdown when you click the wireless icon; you select it, it prompts for password and it does not accept the password?

or

2) You click the wireless icon and the name of the network doesn't even show, your macbook does not 'see' the router'

No the network shows up when I go under airport on laptop. I am told to enter password and then it will say something like connecting network and then says connection timeout.

BTW it is a treadnet router
