Carl Pavano is the New York Yankees' scheduled starter for the first time this season. After signing a $39.95 million, four-year contract with New York before the 2005 season, Pavano has been limited to 19 appearances and only two since June 27, 2005. Pavano will face the Orioles and Jeremy Guthrie (10-9 3.15) in Baltimore in a 7:05PM EDT start.

He's capable of pitching a big game in a big game spot.

I would have thought Pavano would be on a cruise or something with the money he made.

Grassy Noll Part Three

I happen to run in to a snippet about Pavano starting on MLB.com an hour ago and figured I would share it with the forum. There is no anti Yankee agenda involved, if anything anyone who didn't know about it that reads this forum now does and can act accordingly knowing a pitcher who has had two appaearances (11.2 innings with a 4.76 era) since the 2005 season is starting against a pitcher who has pitched the following starts in the last month or so.

Jeremy Guthrie RHP.

Aug 18 BOS L 3-6 L 7.0 5 (loss at Fenway 7 innings 5 hits)
Aug 13 @ CLE W 6-1 W 7.0 4 (win at Cleve. 7 inn. 4 hits)
Aug 8 TEX W 9-1 W 7.0 5 1 (win vs Texas 7 inn. 5 hits)
Aug 2 @ SEA W 3-1 W 9.0 4 (win @ Seat 9 inn 4 hits)
Jul 28 @ NYY W 13-4 W 6.1 3 (win at NY 6.1 inn 3 hits)
Jul 23 TOR L 1-5 L 5.2 6 (loss Vs Toronto 5.2 inn 6 hits)
Jul 18 DET W 7-4 W 6.0 12 4 (win vs Detroit 6 Inn. 12 hits)
Jul 10 @ TOR L 5-6 - 7.0 4 (no decision @ Toronto 7 inn. 4 hits)
Jul 4 TEX W 10-4 W 6.1 8 (win vs Texas 6.1 inn 8 hits)
Jun 29 @ WAS L 2-3 - 7.0 4 (no decision @ Wash 7 inn 4 hits)

That a record of 6-2 with 2 no decisions in ten starts - nine of them quality starts.

Comparing Pavano to now in Class A Rookie Clay Bucholtz foolish at best.

Do what you want with the information.

Wil, you are much wiser than your years...or maybe I gave you too much credit, but I thought it was hillarious...if Pavano pitched for anyone except the Yankees, I wouldn't even give it a second thought....
