WEST MIAMI-DADE (WSVN) -- Customers usually find hot deals at the mall but authorities said instead they found marijuana.
DEA agents uncovered more than 200 marijuana plants inside a storage room at the Mall of Americas.
Officials said whoever was in charge of this illegal operation had surveillance cameras on the pot and diverted power from the mall to the lamps and fans inside.
"There's a hole in the wall, that's the camera. They have a video monitoring screen up in the grove. So you have all of the lights, you have the fans and then you have a little tv so they can sit and watch whoever might want to come near their grow house." said DEA spokeswoman Jeanette Moran.
No arrests have been made. Investigators are searching for those involved in the sophisticated operation.

Drug Enforcement Administration agents discovered more than 200 marijuana plants growing inside the Mall of the Americas in West Miami-Dade County.

On Friday evening, DEA agents announced the ''grow house'' in a 400-square-feet storage area on the second floor of the West Miami-Dade County mall. Agents didn't disclose Friday night who was responsible for the three-to-six-feet tall illegal plants.

The plants could fetch at least $3,500 per pound (each plant is considered a pound when harvested) on Miami streets. If the plants were shipped north to New York, they could fetch $7,000 per plant, said DEA special agent Jeanette Moran.

Agents are especially concerned about the grow house because it diverted electricity from other sources in the mall, which could lead to electrical problems, Moran said.
