I need some help here. I have a 7 month old son, in about a year in October I wanted me and my girlfriend to go back out to Vegas for our anniversary. My son will be about a year and 9 months at the time of the trip. My GF thinks he may be too young to leave with grandparents for a weekend. Obviously he is too young right now that's why I didn't suggest it for this years anniversary but almost 2 would be OK for what I know. Anyone with any experience with this subject that can help?

Not too young at all. The grandparents will show him so much attention he probably won't even care if you come back. We went away when our youngest was about the same age and he was fine. He's now 18 and I just asked him now if he was pissed off and he said no it was cool.

that age shouldn't be a problem. Just get a babysitter to come over for a few hours in the late afternoon until the kid is in bed.

Leave with grandparents for a weekend?

Shit my parents took my daughter for like a 5 days when she was about 6 months. Unless your parents are really really old or don't like babies I see no problem at all.

Besides the fire station and hooker comment thanks to those who chimed in. She is just worried being a first time mother. I'm sure all would be OK. I just need to convince her of that.

are you seriously asking a bunch of degenerates what to do with your girlfriend's kid while you go to Vegas?

Take him with you...
Las Vegas isn't too far a drive from Mexico...if you miss a few passes on the craps table, and need some scratch, i hear you can get some decent cash for him south of the border....bwahahahhaa.

If it's really that much of an issue and you are worrying about it something tells me your conscience will not let you enjoy Vegas since you will be worrying about the kid the whole time...If it's something you are second guessing then it's going to bother you while you are away...I don't know why anyone would worry leaving their kid with ur own parents though...this is a good thing..

My wife and I went to Vegas when our son was 8 months old (this was 11 years ago). Her parents watched him for 4 days and he didn't miss us at all. I say go this year, he will be 9 months old and will have a blast with the grandparents.

He'll be fine. Can I leave my four with them as well so my wife and I can also go the Vegas?

Lots of people leave babies or toddlers with grandparents. It's not really whether the kid is too young, it's more about whether the grandparents are too old. Sounds like wifey just doesn't trust your parents (or her parents).

Separation anxiety typically occurs when a child is between 8 months to 1-years-old, so your child should be ok :)

Not an issue at all. She just isn't sure if he would be old enough to be ok without us, that's all. I would enjoy myself knowing he was in good hands and being well taken care of. I may make a few phone calls a day but I'd still enjoy myself.

You pretty much quoted my GF right there.

I know that there are some parents on here that may have some input to give.

Unless Vegas has a special meaning, why don't you take your wife somewhere nice instead. One of those all-inclusive romantic resorts in the Caribbean somewhere. It's an anniversary and my idea of showing my love and commitment does not involve a bunch of shiny shirt dickwads and smoke-filled casinos with unhip tourists. Just a thought.

I know what you mean but we've had fun the last time we went. I've been there a bunch of times and love it. We will catch the Phantom at the Venitien, rent a car and go out to the desert, it will not be dominated by gambling. (but of course there will still be some of that:103631605)
