I can't gamble anymore (effectively), and can't get a job much better than a paper route, at my age (45).

I could :

A. Move somewhere I don't want to live at, work for a local that has extended me an offer.

2. Get a Contractor's license. I'd have to work hard physically myself. I'd go for General Contractor license, if I went that way, and sub out whatever I don't want to do myself, huge stuff there, that's a lot of work.

C. Get a job tending bar again.... that would be the least income, but the easiest to do, and the most fun !

disregard my marital status ( married, but want to divorce).

What would you pick ?

not too easy to move to Canada ,Ice. My criminal record is minor, no felonies, but still not easy to cross-countries.... I'd only want Vancouver,BC anyway in Canada.... I'm no fan of the cold.

If the whole gabling thing works for me but I end up not likng Vegas than Vancouver is where I am headed (maybe). I dont think the winters there are ay worse than where you or I am from.

You think if you could get into Canada and get a bank account you could function as a everyday gambler like you did in the past? You did bet more or less fulltime a few years ago, right?

Funny how many people say the law that passed isnt working etc.. but I know a lot of players like yourself who got right out of the game after this happened, it ruined a lot of things and set online gambling back at least 5-10 years with no relief in sight for so called professional's in the U.S.

General contractor is a bit much, I should go for what I know ( HVAC), but flooring is better suited to me. Problem is I'm not expert at it, that doesn't mean I can't get a license.

I wouldn't hire myself, at this point, very limited experience with flooring/tile.

I think I may have lost my desire for it, anyway, Ice. I have a tendancy to change, thus I'm open to a lot of things, even a new country, or flooring instead of HVAC, or single instead of married, or anywhere but New England.

I guess you could say some change is in order. I could be a casino dealer, went to school for it, I could deal BJ , or be a welder, experience at the later. 5+ years at the PO showed be that wasn't it, I'm too old to become a cop or join the Army.

I feel your pain Doug.

I think to myself all the time if I had one little small business idea or even half way decent skill I could add into what I already do then I would be way ahead of the game. The problem is I cant ever think of one. I dont if that is pathetic on my end or what. Kind of sucks how reliant on others for our livelihood we are and how scary that is. Hang in there. Keep looking and whatever you decide than go for it 100% is my advice.

Kinda like as a young kid.... "What do you want to be be , when you grow up, eh ?"

I never could answer that one !, but my options are now more limited at 45, and it will only get worse going forward, as I realistically expect to only live to 65-70, I'm past halftime for sure, I'm not made to live to 90, nor do I want to.

I expect to die by 65 or so, I'm cool with that. I know the math, I'm dead in 20 years.

I am interested in #2. I currently work as a superintendant on a huge retirement community job but I have flipped 3 houses in the past. Not TOO much money doing that right now. I really enjoy construction, but I really enjoy working on the houses.

What do you think would be your approach to this? Building new houses or remodeling old ones? Both?
