I paid off of home and am waiting to receive my deed. Is home deed similiar to a car title, because when I called the county they said it is one file.

You can get your deed from the county and also your mortgage company needs to send you a release

Is Texas is one of those fucked up states where if you take out a mortgage you do not get actual title (a deed) at the same time? If not, go down to yor County's Office of the Recorder - they will have your deed on file (recorded) - at the same time - keep on the lender to record a satisfaction of mortgage - they often forget or take months to do so

you have your deed (or can get it by going to the county). You want the promissory note back from the bank marked "PAID IN FULL" and the release/reconveyence of the deed of trust. Usually takes a couple months to get them, but call the bank and bug them to take care of it. They don't hold your deed like a car title.

fh, I believe there are some states where the lender holds the deed until the mortgage is satisfied - I have no clue of Texas law though

Get a release of lien from the mortgage holder and you're all set.

I paid my house off 20 years ago, and I have never seen a deed. I just got releases from the 2 mortgage companies. Boy, could I tell some stories about that 2nd mortgage. :nohead:

This will be stamped paid in full and they normal ly send you a copy of the deed along with the release. But the release is all you need. I just paid off my house and they said if they could find the deed it would be sent. When I got the release it was attached to the deed and some other papers. I am in Texas also.
