Early Saturday morning we suffered a database crash. The IT team from our hosting service made several attempts to recover the database server, but was unfortunaely unable to do so.

This forced our Tech Support team to build and install a brand new database server and restore the entire RX.com database from scratch.

Because of the size of our forums, this is a lengthy process and (as usual when these things happen) took even longer than our techs anticipated.

I know the timing could not have been worse being week one of the NFL season and the first real extended College Football Saturday card.

In addition the response from our hosting company was not what we were promised, so Rx Management has already begun looking for a new solution in that area and will do whatever it takes to ensure that there are no reaccurances of our servers crashing again.

Despite any rumors or speculation you may have heard the server crashing was not the result of The Rx.com cutting financial corners.

We have been with this same hosting company for at least 18 months and have never experienced any significent down time until this weekend.

Rx. Management has always been willing to spend whatever funds are required to ensure that our forums stay up 24/7 and stay as easy and as fast as possible for our posters to use regardless of the amount of traffic online at any given time.

I realize that many of you are dissapointed when this kind of thing happens and please believe me, so are all of us here at The Rx.

Unfortunately the crash came out of the blue without prior warning and took everyone by surprise.

You will probably notice some data (in the form of posts) has been lost mainly from Friday Sept. 5th and Thursday Sept. 4th. The reason for this is anything posted during those two days (and possibly some from Wednesday Sept. 3rd.) had not been included in the back-up storage files yet when the server went down.

Regarding contests, Sportsavant will post details of what the effect was of the server crashing had on all of this weeks contests.

All contests do have an unforseen circumstance rule attached to them.
Please check the indvidual contest threads posted today to learn what effect the crash had on you if you are involved in any contests.

The entire staff here at The Rx really appreciate everybody's understanding that the crash was not anyone in particulars fault and offers our sincerest apologies to all for the inconvience of not having this forum for the last day and a half or so.

I can assure you we will work as hard and for as long as necessary to see that this type of unfortunate event does not happen again anytime in the near or even distant future.

Quite a few people were up all night working on resolving the problem but like most technical problems each one seemed to take longer than anticipated at every turn to rectify the problem.

Again sincere apologies are offered to all by Rx.com management and from myself and the rest of your moderator team.

We will do our very best to see that this does not happen again.

Thank you and best of luck today, wilheim
