The second to last series begins tonight when Tampa heads to Boston for a 3 game series that could be crucial in determining who wins the East. So far this season, the home team has swept every series between the two teams. After this series, the Red Sox will travel to Tampa for another 3 game series there. I think it is obvious the huge importance between winning the East and falling to the Wild Card this season, because there is a huge difference between having home field advantage to start the postseason or having to travel to LA or whoever wins the East.. especially during a season where teams have been so dominant at home. Looking forward to a highly competitive series, and will also be a big test to see if the young Rays will be able to handle the pressures of the postseason.

No pressure since we have the idiotic WILD CARD.

Both teams have all but wrapped up a postseason berth.

This series means virtually nothing in the grand scheme of things.

Barring a complete collapse they both make the playoffs easily.

I think the Rays really want the division and the sox realize its about what you do in october and will shut it down the last week of the season.

not when home advantage is on the line. The Sox know they suck on the road this year so they will definitely play hard for the division if they are in the home field race.

I agree- I don't think the fact that both will make the playoffs makes this an irrelevant series- home field IS important this season, the Angels are the only team who have had equal (actually more) success on the road. The fact that the home team is 12-0 in the Rays-Sox matchup backs this up.
