Urgent- Call your Representative in Congress and tell them you OPPOSE H.R. 6870- The Payments System Protection Act of 2008

There is a House Financial Services hearing on this bill today.

This bill if enacted into law throws sports betting under the bus. It will accelerate enactment of the UIGEA regulations against sports betting sites.

This bill will make it even harder to deposit and withdraw money from your online sportsbooks.

Call your Congressman or Congresswoman at (202) 224-3121 and tell them you vote and you oppose H.R. 6870.

Because the bill says sports betting is clearly illegal, so start to enforce that right away. Then take a look at every other type of remote gambling item by item.

I have it from a good source that the bill will be even harder on sports than the initial version that has been circulated. And the initial version was not good for sports as written.

never mind, i see what you are saying. basically it makes playing poker fine but sports betting absolutely not fine

The bill is a compromise that will make online sports betting illegal, but delay the implementation of rules governing "games of skill." even if this passes can it or will it even be enforced? what else could they do other than arresting people making bets (i don't think that would happen) or going overseas to arrest "illegal" bookmakers?

The latest incarnation of a bill to effectively abolish an online gambling prohibition measure, was being voted on Tuesday. Its chances of becoming law this year are close to zero but nobody will fault Congressman Barney Frank for his tireless efforts.

A House panel is scheduled to vote on the new bill that would require federal agencies to define unlawful Internet gambling so banks and other financial institutions can comply with the ban against online wagers. The banks contend that the language within the Unlawful Internet Gaming Enforcement Act (UIGEA) is too vague especially since some online gambling venues such as horse racing have been exempt.

Just introduced late Thursday, the bill calls for the Department of Treasury and the Federal Reserve to consult the U.S. attorney general's office in creating a formal process to make the definition.

Many online gambling operators, especially sports book owners, have expressed reservations about any such bill, contending that their activities will be singled out as "illegal".

The bill is the latest move by Rep. Barney Frank, D-Mass., the chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, to clear up confusion about how to enforce the ban since President Bush signed it into law in October 2006.
