National League postseason – September 29
MLB Playoff Betting – National League seeks to crown new champion
This season’s MLB playoff odds are quite close, as Chicago (+150), Philadelphia (+205), Milwaukee (+415) and Los Angeles (+450) all have a legitimate shot at capturing the National League pennant. On Wednesday, the postseason action gets underway when the Dodgers head to Chicago to face the Cubs, while Philadelphia will host the Brewers. A statistic of note for the online sportsbook community: all four of these teams were ranked in the National League’s top four in terms of staff ERA.
Chicago Cubs vs. Los Angeles Dodgers
The Cubs will rely heavily on their trio of Ryan Dempster, Carlos Zambrano and Rich Harden, who powered Chicago to the third-lowest ERA in the league. However, the Cubs can hit as well, scoring the most runs in the league by a wide margin and they were second in the league in batting average. It is no wonder why the Cubs have the lowest MLB playoff odds for the pennant. The Dodgers are very young, but they led the league in ERA. Do not discount the addition of Manny Ramirez, who brought a very powerful bat and a World Series-winning mentality to the team from Boston. Cubs vs. Dodgers odds give the nod to Chicago, who is listed at -220. The Cubs took two of three when these two met in Los Angeles back in June. Bet on the Chicago Cubs to come away with the series win, but do not be surprised if Los Angeles to make it an interesting series.

Philadelphia Phillies vs. Milwaukee Brewers
The Phillies led the National League in homers, powered by Ryan Howard, who should be a favorite to win his second MVP award in three years. Philadelphia were also fourth in ERA, utilizing a combination of youth and experience in southpaws Cole Hamels, a 24-year-old, and 45-year-old Jamie Moyer. The Brewers lost a 5.5-game lead in the wild-card race, but a pair of huge outings by CC Sabathia saved Milwaukee’s World Series odds. Ryan Braun followed up last year’s Rookie of the Year award with a brilliant campaign, but Prince Fielder regressed some after a big season in 2007. Phillies vs. Brewers odds have Philadelphia as -175 favorites to take this series, and Milwaukee suffered a huge blow as Ben Sheets is unlikely to be ready for the Phillies due to an elbow injury. The Phillies romped to five wins in six meetings with the Brewers this season. Pick the Philadelphia Phillies to cut short Milwaukee’s first playoff visit since 1982.
