what is the best and most cost effective way to set this system up? It is important that the 1 mouse can drag accross from screen to screen so that something can be copied from one screen and placed to another.

Of course, would love to have 3 screens working on seperate web pages and or applications.

This has probably been discussed before, so please link any old threads, but also, please let me know about any new technologies out there.

You'll need 2 video cards - use the same brand if at all possible. Model does not really matter, as long as both cards are relatively recent. If your computer has an integrated card, you might be able to use that in conjunction with a standalone card. Windows XP/Vista will manage the multiple displays - you'll simply need to enable them via the Display Properties panel the first time you set them up.

Matrox has a quad output video card-it's actually 2 outputs with a splitter on each.

I'm not sure how it works with 3 monitors though-I've only seen 2 or 4.

is it 2 DMS 59 outputs?

I learned the hard way that DVI and VGA outputs cannot be split.....(they can but you just get duplicate images).....

if it is 2 DMS outputs, I think you have to split both of them and just leave one connector unplugged....and will have the option for #4 anytime.

I've done it with 3 monitors and a pair of Nvidia cards - Windows and the cards' drivers let you enable/disable and rearrange the order of your displays at will.

I don't think you want or even can split a single connector. You'll need 3 of them. DVI or VGA doesn't really matter.
