I heard this on the radio a little while ago but haven't confirmed. If it's true, I'll make my play based on this. I see the game as a toss-up and this tidbit is enough to put me on one side.

Ten times in history has a team played three different opponents on three consecutive days and won the first two. Those teams have lost the third game ten out of ten times.

Can anyone confirm?

Actually I'd say that would be one trend to ignore forsure... I don't think it honestly matters... this is 1 game to represent 162... trends go right out the window, as they usually should anyways..

Going to have to call Elias Sports Bureau for that one
Just looked, and according to Elias:

WHITE SOX HAVE CHANCE TO MAKE HISTORY
If the White Sox defeat the Twins on Tuesday they will become the first team in major league history to win their last three games of a season against three different opponents.

My play: Twins +130

So who you taking? Hot team or team with 2 days rest?
I'll take the hotter team, which also has the rest. The Sox have won two in a row but lost their previous five. The Twins have won five of their last seven. The trend just put me over the edge.

You know why this is a stupid stat? How many teams actually played 3 different teams to end the season? Most series are 3 game series so its pretty hard to play 3 different teams the last 3 games of the season.

Really, the only way it could happen is through some strange postponement similar to what the White Sox have done the last three days.

It's relevant because the only way this could happen would be in a situation exactly like this. And every single time it has happened, the team playing the third game has lost. It's only a sample of 10 occurrences, but it is 100% so far.

Not that the Twins will certainly win this game, but it's definitely a tough task to win three straight against three different opponents as the info you presented indicates.

Agreed, and like I said it's a small sample size. Since I am an action junkie, and I saw this game as a toss-up, it was enough to make up my mind. Hopefully it hits and goes to 11-0. BOL to all either way.

you really need to know when this has occurred. if it was 50-60 years ago when teams traveled by train or bus, it makes a huge difference. also, did a team have to travel across multiple time zones, or how many of the 3 games were on the road (sox last 3 at home)?

i'd also like to know how many of the teams were big faves like the sox are tonight. the lines seems to be asking for twins money. after a 3 game sweep in minny last week, i thought we'd see a mid 120's line here.

Chicago probably wins by 1 - fucks the CWS RL players and the MIN ML players both and books clean up.

Lets not dwell into the fine points or particulars of this trend. The point is simply that no team has closed out a MLB regular season by beating 3 different opponents. That's it--nothing more to be said.

This is not a season ending trend re-read the initial post.

I heard this on Mike and Mike this morning and had the following thoughts.

How many of these teams played all three games at home? Unless there is an actual breakdown of who the teams are and where they play, it will be hard to apply the trend....

Not sure you could say the White Sox are a hot team. They've won two in a row but are 4-6 in their last ten. Beating cellar dweller Detroit and Cleveland, who ran a triple a pitcher out there because Lee couldn't go, constitutes being hot.

I wish any other pitcher but Blackburn was pitching. Blackburn is so bad its hard to bet on him.
