If a bust were to take place on a bookie and all they had were phone records and wire taps, what happens? Note* - There is no cash to be found and no written records of info anywhere, just phone records. Can you get into trouble just via the phone??

It depends on a lot of intangibles. How bad they want to make the case , how large it is , etc. But yes, they can sure make a case with a lot less.

Say if you just took a few guys (3-5) action who range from $25 per to $400 per game, that's it!

Nobody was busted. Friend of mine is just a little worried that if he starts taking action on small amounts as mentioned, what if something happens?

If I go through him, it will be for $75-$150 and offshore if I do more. I might just go offshore in all.

I've heard if you let'em buy off three in the NFL for 10cents they will get it dropped totally.

you would never go to jail for take bets. some really big guys got bagged taking serious action and nothing ever happened. just looks good in the newspapers

you will not go to jail for a first offense bookmaking offense. And there is no way the police are going to waste money wire tapping a guy with 1/2 dozen clients. Your only concern would be if one of them loses a lot to you and his wife calls the cops. :lol:

you will not go to jail for bookmaking per se....but you better make sure you have paid your taxes....book it...been there done that...

what about the agents in the states that go through another country you read about in boston and the east coast etc? I would imagine that this is much safer but do penalties increase with wire fraud?

I do know of a small time book that got bust when one of his clients got nailed for a second DUI and turned him in. The guy I was going through it was his first offense and just got a fine, his partner had been nailed before and ended up doing time. I felt sorry for the partner he had a couple of kids and couldn't have been making more then a couple of thousand a month booking. This was back in the early 90's.
