You guys have to understand that he's not trying the same things from those earlier movies. The script for Lady in the Water is made bad on purpose and the outlandish scenes are par for the course. It's supposed to be a little weird.
As far as The Happening, I thought it had a good mix of violence and unknown. Marky Mark did just fine IMO and although a little explanation would have been nice it's that unknown factor that keeps you guessing that I'm pretty sure was the point of the movie. Everyone was expecting a twist and I think the weird twist is that there was none. Guy produces some weird movies but I've always enjoyed them. You just shouldn't expect much consistency because he changes his style alot.
