Could be the end of the road:

To make room for OF Jonny Gomes acquired Tuesday from Cincinnati, the Nationals designated 43-year-old Matt Stairs for assignment. The all-time leader in pinch-hit home runs with 23, Stairs was just 6 for 39 as a pinch hitter this season without a homer.

Happy 51st

On Wednesday, Matt Stairs, "The Unmechanical Man," turns 51.
A Canadian native and member of the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame (Class of 2015), the well-travelled “Wonder Hamster” played for 12 franchises, including 14 games with the Tigers back in 2006.
In addition to being a Tiger, he was <deep breath> an Expo, a Red Sock, an Athletic, a Cub, a Brewer, a Pirate, a Royal, a Ranger, a Blue Jay, a Phillie, a Padre and, finally, a National. He started his career with Montreal two years before the Expos had the best record in baseball before a season-canceling strike hit in 1994 and finished it with the same franchise, six years after it had relocated from Canada and one year before it made its first playoff appearance in the U.S. capital.
