you just answered it basically. The manager is sending a strong message that he feels more confident with Shields at home than Kazmir.

Maddon has shown he is a gambler and he is putting all the eggs in one basket in hoping Shields or Garza get it done at home. Kazmir isnt a pushover, but he has been far from sharp and most likely will lose his decision.

Will not matter. Bost is a dead team and they are over matched in every part of the game.

Rays have much better pitching, much better hitting, alot faster, a better bullpen, better defense, better bullpen and a better manager and alot hungrier.

Shields has been filthy at home. Shields and Kaz were both going to pitch anyways. I like the move but I think that TB is a team of destiny and wins it all.

This team should be very good for a long time and they are only going to get better next year when Price is inserted into the rotation.

Not much in this post with which any of us could argue

I could start for Tampa Bay and it wouldn't make any difference. The Red Sox are done. I've been a Red Sox fan since I was a young kid but this team needs some significant changes. I'm surprised they got this far. They're old. They're slow. Their middle relief is absolutely horrible. Jason Varitek has a lot of heart but he's done. For them to stay competitive, there will have to be a shake up.

I presume Dsethi was intending to state..."game 5" in that last comment and I'll respond by saying I've heard no such info down here.

Quite simply, Shields is filthy at home, as is Garza.

And Kaz is quite simply the "4th starter"production-wiseout of this postseason group. We don't want to risk losing Game 5 AND also then having to turn to him in Game 6, which then increases chances of going to Game 7 and all that entails.

Likely Kaz will be encouraged not to worry one bit about pitch count and instead work to let it all hang out for four to five innings max. The only way he stays in longer is if Rays pull another offensive burst and have a multi run lead.

Then Maddon has a fully healthy bullpen, including Price, Jackson and Howell who can work 2 IP if needed before giving way to the final four late inning guys.

Personally, I'm modestly torn between wanting to see Rays close it out NOW and shove it in RedSoxFan's face right on the Fenway green and my wanting it to go to Game 6 where we have tickets to see what for us would be our first major league playoff game ever.

don't think theres any chance that boston could win three in a row against anyone right now and especially tb.
this is not the rsx team from past years, a totally different bunch, without lowell, manny and ortiz.

THEY HAVE NO CHANCE AS FAR AS I'M CONCERNED

I would tend to agree that the Sox are toast, but they have shown in the past the ability to come back from the dead. This year, however, they do not have Manny and Lowell is now out for the season. If the pitching staff has a turnaround from the past 3 games, and the Rays staff goes in the tank . . . well stranger things have happened.
