was listening to weei this morning the dennis and callahan were talking about who should throw game6 and both argued for Lester....their arguements

A) regular rest for him
B) best starter right now and even though you have to win both games no matter what...it would be a shame to see your season end with your best pitcher only throwing 6innings in the whole series
C) Beckett hasnt been "Beckett" lately (they basically said you look him in the eye and can see he hasnt been his dominant self)

they then went back to the obvious they need to win both to win the series but they said you dont get to 7 without winning 6 1st...throw your current best win 6...get to 7 and then start beckett and if necessary you throw the kitchen sink at them.....if beckett off you got Byrd and even Dice could throw an inning or 2....

the more i thought about it the more i think it makes sense but its for discussion only...beckett gonna throw game6

Just don't leave him out there to give up 8 runs. I think something is wrong with the guy.

And so it goes......

I was thinking the exact same thing..It would be Lester's regualar rotation spot...why save him? there is no game 7 w/out a game 6 win..

lester only has pitched 6 inns because he got rocked. who ever pitched better not give up more than 3 runs, shields will be tough.

I would start lester no doubt. Its all about getting to game 7. If you can win game 6 you put tons of doubt and pressure on the rays and they make fall apart.

Definitely Lester. I wouldn't pitch Beckett again the remainder of the postseason. Read a Peter Gammons piece a few days back that noted Beckett's only gotten 2 swings and misses on his fastball over his 2 playoff starts. I can't think of a clearer indication Beckett's hurt.

Provided he's not used in Game 6, I'd start Masterson in a potential Game 7, hoping to get 4 or 5 innings and handing it off to the bullpen after that.

Hey Husker - what do you think of D&C? Jerry's a little right wing for me, but they are entertaining.

I would go with Lester. Gives Beckett an extra day of rest. Also if they were to make it to game 7, they could throw the "kitchen sink" at the Rays if Beckett is ineffective. If the Sox manage to win tomorrow night, the Rays are going to be feeling the heat on Sunday.

Red Sox are more aware than anyone where Becketts health is. If they thought he wasnt the best option, they would use Byrd or Wakefield instead.

They can and will "throw sink" both games. Anything to win. I think they are confident in Beckett. People around here remember a few starts. Don't be so quick to throw the guy under a bus. if they win game 6, Rays will tighten up. Now they have to face Lester and maybe go down in history for a huge collapse.

Lester cant pitch both, so Beckett will have to pitch one. No big deal whether its 6 or 7. Gotta win both games. Red Sox know what his health is, they must be OK with it. If he were done, they wouldnt start him.

Mr. Smith right about the health I think. I would throw Lester though if I was Boston. Better pitcher and you need to beat their best pitcher. And it is a little easier to throw the kitchen sink at them in a game 7 if needed than doing it twice. Main reason is with the tampa ace on the hill I would want my best facing him.

I think Beckett will pitch fine for the first part of the game Francona will have to get him out as soon as he is gassed. 5 or 6 innings at the most any more than that and the Rays win. I would save Lester for the 7th game and hope to never look back.

Having said that GOOOOOOOO RAYYYYYYYYYSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

You worry about game 7 after you win game 6. You don't win you don't have to worry about game 7.

It works both ways. To not worry about game 7 would be silly to even play game 6. Lester wasn't exactly lights out either. Fuck the Red Sox.

Yeah, Lester sucks. No way he can rebound and improve upon his Game 4 outing. Just like Kazmir got rocked in Game 2 and suffered the same fate last night in Game 5, right? I mean, Lester pitched poorly all season and was awful in his first two postseason starts.

Andy Pettitte's much better.
