This kid is putting together one helluva year for the Hawkeyes...........and is only a junior.

Greene entered the day 3rd in the country in rushing yards...........and at halftime today, he has helped Iowa to a 14-3 halftime lead over Wisky with two TD's and 98 yards rushing.

Greene is the only back in I-A to go over 100 yards in every game this year.

Iowa should be 7-0 right now. 3 losses they all should've won - 9 pts total difference. They will beat PENN ST.

Ringer shut down by the Hawks D.- which i believe leads the nation in scoring defense. Somewhere around 11 pts per game

4th TD of day. and...BrockLanders continues to show he knows nothing about football.

Now #1 in the nation in rushing pending Ringer's game this afternoon. Ringer had 95 more carries coming into the game too!! so has 70 more at this point.

Definetly a candidate to be invited to NY for the ceremonies.

Three obstacles in his way.......

1. Bad ankle

2. Iowa will probably have 4 or more losses.

3. Unlikely to keep this pace up, even if the ankle holds up.

Having said that, he is most definetly a contender at this time...........but I'm not stupid enough to realize he is not only a huge underdog of winning the award at this time, but also of even being invited to NY for the ceremonies. If not mistaken, three players are chosen/invited for the Heisman awards ceremony.

NILE KINNICK is the only Hawkeye to win the award.

By the way, if they are going to make a movie about Ernie Davis, they certainly should do the same for Kinnick.

Up to 5 players can be invited to the Heisman ceremony. If you recall the year Brad Banks went to the ceremony, Carson Palmer, Larry Johnson, Ken Dorsey, and Willis McGahee were all there as well.

If the season ended today Colt McCoy easily wins. Of course the season isn't over but he's the front runner.

Better change your avatar..........just kidding. :)

Greene continued his streak of being the only RB in the country with 100+ yds in every game with his 117 yd and 2 TD performance agains Penn State.

From CFB this morning...........

21. Iowa (6-4) Last Week: 27
W, Penn State 24-23
next game: Purdue
The Ranking Should Be Higher Because … they're the ones who actually pulled it off. With a nasty run defense and clutch offense, the Hawkeyes knocked off Penn State and now have a decent finishing kick against Purdue and Minnesota. Shonn Greene belongs in the Heisman hunt.
The Ranking Should Be Lower Because ..
there's still that matter of the loss to a bad Illinois team two weeks ago.

Greene won't even get an invite.

If season ended today Heisman invites would go to:
Javon Ringer
Sam Bradford
Colt McCoy
Graham Harrell
Michael Crabtree

It says something about the season when four of the five Heisman frontrunners all play in the Big XII South

I would have to agree with you................at this point also, I would put Javon Ringer ahead of Greene also.

Still 2-3 games remaining in the season however...........Greene has had a helluva year though to not even be thought of as a contender.

My hope is that he at least finishes up with a couple 100+ yard games in IOWAS remaining two games.

Get this, if IOWA wins out and Penn State does the same, the Hawkeyes will be playing in a NEW YEARS DAY BOWL, which is amazing because 24 hours ago they were a favorite to not make ANY bowl.

Greene has had an amazing season considering the lack of consistent quarterback play from Stanzi and Christensen. Greene and Donald Brown should both get a couple 4th or 5th place votes as recognition of their fantastic seasons but neither are realistic contenders.

IMO Iowa would be the best shot for the Big 10 to beat an SEC team in a New Year's Bowl. Michigan St. is totally one-dimensional and only plays average defense, Minnesota got exposed for the fluke they are today, and Northwestern is Northwestern. None of those teams could beat Georgia but I'd give Iowa a puncher's chance against LSU.
