Why did everyone consider James Shields the best pitcher on the Rays staff?

This is one thing i don't get. Yes he is a very good pitcher but where the heck is Scott Kazmir's name? Scott Kazmir is the best pitcher on the Rays staff yet i never hear much about him. I hear Garza and Sonnanstine MORE than Kazmir.

Kazmir is the best pitcher on the Rays staff yet I do not know why people say it is Shields.

James Shield is/was the best pitcher on the Rays staff this year.

Go back and look at the games logs for the pitchers, Shields was by far the best, and more importantly, the most consistent pitcher on the team.
Kazmir and (maybe even Garza) may have better strikeout stuff, but Kazmir was consistently in the 100's with his pitch count by or before the 5th inning. (See game 2 of the Bost/TB series. 100 pitches by the 5th, again, and pulled.)

Kazmir pitched great last game, but you're only using the last start from each guy to base this opinion off of.

Game 1 Shields 7.1 IP, 6 hits, 2 runs
Game 2 Shields 5.2 IP, 9 hits, 3 runs

Game 1 Kazmir 4.1 ip, 6 hits, 5 runs
Game 2 Kazmir 6 IP, 2 hits, 0 runs

Kazmir wasn't really even the better pitcher in this series, let alone over the entire season.

Price, Nieman, Hellickson, Davis and Cobb in 2012,

Hope Shields and Upton get a short stop and some relief for the future.. Jennings ready to take over BJ's spot..

LETS HOPE JAMES RIGHTS THE SHIP TODAY-- The White Sox will send struggling James Shields to the mound. Shields is 2-8 with a 5.45 ERA overall, and he has been rocked in his two starts since being acquired by the White Sox in a June 4 trade with San Diego. In those two starts Shields is 0-1 with a 16.71 ERA, having given up 14 runs on 17 hits, four of them home runs, in just seven innings.
