BLUE ASH, Ohio – Police in Ohio say an 89-year-old woman is facing a charge of petty theft because neighborhood children accuse her of refusing to give back their football.

Edna Jester was arrested last week in the Cincinnati suburb of Blue Ash.

Police say one child's father complained that Jester kept the youngsters' ball after it landed in her yard. Police Capt. James Schaffer says there has been an ongoing dispute in the neighborhood over kids' balls landing in the woman's yard.

Jester said Monday she has received many calls and didn't have time to discuss the matter any more.

Jester is to appear in court next month. The maximum penalty for a petty theft conviction in Ohio is six months in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.

She doesn't deserve to go to the joint, but a little community service wouldn't hurt.

BLUE ASH, Ohio —
Charges were filed Saturday, Oct. 18, against an 89-year-old woman who is already facing a charge of petty theft because neighborhood children accused her of refusing to give back their football. She was arrested Saturday, after a large quantity of marijuana was found at her home.
The woman is charged with trafficking in drugs or attempting to traffic in drugs, first degree, which is a felony.
Bond was set at $100,000, cash only, according to officers with the Southern Ohio Narcotics Task Force, which was involved in the investigation and subsequent arrest.
The woman, remained in Jail on Monday.
She is scheduled to be arraigned at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28, in Circuit Court.
Officers with the task force reported a large quantity of marijuana had been found at a home.
Sgt. Stendanko of the state patrol reported the search warrant and arrest resulted from an investigation of a marijuana growing operation. He said when the search warrant was executed at about 1:51 a.m. Saturday, numerous marijuana plants were found drying in sheds, and inside the house. A large sum of money and several weapons also were found.
Neighborhood children now admit they traded their football for marijuana cigarettes and lied to their parents when asked "where is your football?"

Jail Lockdown

A jail crackdown after a tip about a possible escape at the County Detention Center in Southern Ohio. But was this more of a threat than an actual plot? And how did the jail respond to the information?
Jail deputies got a tip from an inmate about the alleged plot.
According to Jailer Jane Jiggler the inmate said she witnessed three others making weapons.
It's believed that the plot included breaking out of the detention center and taking three deputies hostage.
It was a serious threat that required locking down the jail Tuesday morning and searching cell by cell for evidence of an escape plan and weapons to take hostages.
"We can't afford to take a chance on anything else, for the safety involved of the staff, the other inmates and most especially for the community," said Jiggler. "We don't want anyone to get out of here and be a threat to the community."
After questioning inmates and searching the jail, Deputies were not able to confirm there was ever a plot. However, one of the inmates that is suspected in conspiring in this alleged plot is an 89-year-old Blue Ash woman charged with numerous narcotics crimes. Jailer Jiggler says, it's still good practice for more serious situations. "You're talking about dealing with hundreds of inmates," Jiggler said. "If the deputy is not completely on her toes she could miss that one little blade missing off of a razor."
Almost anything not accounted for can be made into a weapon by inmates. Jiggler says razor blades, combs, and even bed sheets can be used as weapons in the jail. That's why she says it's so important for jail staff to be alert all the time.
"A lot of times, there could be 30 or 40 inmates either moving in or out in one processing area. Very distracting atmosphere, so it's important that they maintain their focus on what they're doing." Not just the staff. Jiggler says the jail relies on inmates to keep everyone safe as well.
"It's just amazing what inmates, what information they will share with you. They usually have an ulterior motive, but you know what, I don't really care what motive they have as long as they give the information," Jiggler said.
Posters are hanging up around the jail encouraging inmates to confidentially come forward with any information.
The inmate that came forward with the alleged plot has been moved to another jail far away.
