MistaFlava's 2008 MLB Playoffs Record: 3-2 (+3.30 Units)

The baseball playoffs are and always will be fun to bet on because it's the only time you can guarantee guys on both sides of the ball actually care about the game and the only time you can get a full nine inning effort from just about everyone. On that note, I had a great record in 2007 and actually had the Red Sox in all their games against Colorado but the race is a bit tougher this season and it won't be all about pitching matchups. Enjoy the selections.

Divisional Series: 3-2 (+3.30 Units)
World Series: Pending

They key to betting on baseball playoffs is to bet on the team that wants it more not the team that needs it more. Just because a team is down 1-0 or 2-0 in the series and needs to win the next game, that just doesn't matter. You can tail, fade or just follow. Good Luck to all!

Wednesday, October 22 (Game 1)

Tampa Bay Rays -101 (10 Units)

:toast:

Hamels vs Kazmir: Kind of hard to believe the Rays are underdogs in this game but when you look at the matchup it all makes sense. The last time these two teams met in a series was back in 2006 in Philadelphia (Rays won 2-1 series wise). In that series, Cole Hamels lasted only 3.2 innings, allowing 2 HR's, 5 ER's and 7 hits in a 10-4 loss. Scott Kazmir on the other hand went 5.0 innings, allowing 6 hits, 2 ER's with 9 strikeouts as the Rays won that game 7-2. Some experts may call for a Tampa Bay letdown in this game but with games 3, 4 and 5 all being played in Philadelphia, losing this game here is not really an option for the Rays and they already know that. They have soaked up their series win over the Red Sox, have had a few days off to enjoy it and should be right back on the saddle in this game. I think the Rays are going to have some success with Hamels at home where they have hit .258 against lefties compared to Philadelphia's .240 on the road against lefties. This could be a tight game right to the end and in tight game I really like the Rays at home.

See you all tomorrow for some CFB and tonight for some NHL!

Your actually comparing Hamels two years ago when he was a rookie till now? He is a completely different pitcher. If it is a tight game then the Phillies have the edge in the bullpen.

I beg to differ with the Rays playing at home. I think the atmosphere of this game alone gives them an edge in a close game, kinda like it did in Game 7 against the BoSox.

As for Hamels, sure he's a much better pitcher now but psychologically this could be an issue. He knows he got demolished by these guys two years ago and some of the guys in the Rays lineup have the mental edge of knowing they can hit Hamels, no matter how much better he has gotten.

GL tonight man, love the Rays.

I agree with you on the Tampa pick. Much is being made of how the Rays have struggled v. lefties, but has anyone looked at Hamels splits? Hamels struggles vs. lefties! Check out opponents avg/obp/slg/ops numbers against him:

vs. righties .215/.261/.356/.617

vs. lefties .262/.303/.471/.774

Those are significantly worse #'s vs. lefties. Kaz is a traditional pitcher who dominates the lefty/lefty matchup. When you can nullify Utley and Howard the Phils will struggle to score.

Hamels afraid of the Rays hitters

Guy just dominated the Brewers and Dodgers and lives for big games he isn't afraid of anybody. The only hitters left on that Rays team from two years ago is Crawford and Baldelli anyway. You rely what too much on past stats. I could see if he faced the Rays a couple of times, but that start two years ago means nothing.

Phillies had the best road record in the NL and none of the fans play on the field. By tight game you meant the bullpens and I will take Romero, Madson, Lidge over anybody in the Rays bullpen.

Upton and Longoria are the Rays two best hitters both are right handed. Kazmir only pitches 5-6 innings anyway.

Mistaflava, good evening. Tonight is the night to bet the Rays!! -160 to -170 is a little steep(I got it at -170) But, it will be their night!! Had the Phils in Gm 1 and for the whole Series, but TB will win tonight! My local had them @ -1 1/2 +115, which was less value than them at -170. Good luck, sir!! I was looking at your Auburn pick, I also have them and the Under. Later!
