5* Tampa Bay Rays EV

Many of you think I'm a football capper, but I know more about baseball than I will ever know about football.

1. Baseball is a game that needs to be played everyday. You usually struggle when you take 5 days off in baseball. This isnt football where you need to be fresh to take a pounding and get all of those bruises healed up. You have to be out there swinging the bat every day. Rays had a nice day or two off, thats all they need, and they will be ready to roll here.

2. Rays won the better division, are the better team, and are on fire right now.

3. Hamels is a stud, better than Lester. But the Rays hit Lester well both games, they are hot vs. lefties right now, they are seeing it well. Hamels is a changeup pitcher, and you dont throw changeups to lefties when you are a LHP. Aki, Crawford, Pena, Hinske, etc all bat left-handed and Hamels has no effective out pitch vs. lefties which is why he struggles vs. lefties. Hamels hasnt faced or had to deal with a DH in a long time and I can remember a few instances this year where he got out of jams using the pitcher in the lineup.

4. Kazmir is a stud on lefties, giving up only 7 extra basehits this year to lefties (who bat .198 against him), and when you can neutralize Utley and Howard you have a great chance to beat the Phillies. Utley's average drops nearly 30 points vs. lefties and Howard has never had a chance in hell to hit a lefty and at times he can look downright horrible vs. lefties.

5. Rays bullpen is rested and ready to go. They dont want to drop game 1 at home.

The Red Sox were a team that the Rays had ultimate respect for. Almost like they couldnt believe they were actually going to beat them. While they have respect for the Phillies, I think they will play loose in this game. The home crowd will be rocking and the Phills will have a tough time tonight.

We think VERY much alike Box. Allow me to quote myself from an earlier post!

Much is being made of how the Rays have struggled v. lefties, but has anyone looked at Hamels splits? Hamels struggles vs. lefties! Check out opponents avg/obp/slg/ops numbers against him:

vs. righties .215/.261/.356/.617

vs. lefties .262/.303/.471/.774

Those are significantly worse #'s vs. lefties. Kaz is a traditional pitcher who dominates the lefty/lefty matchup. When you can nullify Utley and Howard the Phils will struggle to score.

I just think this is a typical post of what the forum has partially become.

"SOUTHPHILLYBUDDA6" comes into someone elses thread with his homer pick of the phillies in 6, opposite side of the thread starter yet he gives no data to support his side. hilarious

losing yourself money not betting his plays, he'll make you a lot of money in the long run, go look at his college football records the last couple years, i got beat up on this game but i just added a little more cuz hes a guy i respect and he lost too, so does it, he'll win more than he'll lose, i can guarantee that

not blaming you at all, it just seems that this board is full of people that just pop in someones thread and post there own plays with no analysis until after the game and come back in and say they should've bet them, he may be phils next game, who knows, thats gambling

dont sweat it cjv

it doesnt bother me. this is all about the long term

tough loss. 1 swing of the bat decided that game. all of my plays in postseason sports are 4*+ typically. phillies struggled as expected as they had horrendous ABs w/ RISP. but rays struggled as well.

Not trying to bash by any means, I believe you probably are a good baseball capper and will look for your picks/opinion in the future...but I would argue the idea that the game was decided by one swing of the bat (though if Utley doesn't homer we might deduce that the Phils lose 2-1, though that is poor logic, it does make some sense). I'd argue that the Phillies actually were very close to blowing the game open (see Rollins third inning) and were a little unlucky...true they struggled with RISP, but I'd rather take the team who is getting guys on base at a much higher rate. Of course, considering their struggles with RISP, you could argue Tampa was one swing away from stealing the game (or perhaps one hard run down the basepaths by Upton?). Basically it was a 3-2 game and could have easily gone either way, I would just like to say that I think Philly dominated the game as they were much closer to blowing it open than the Rays.

Again, not to bash - don't listen to these clowns telling you to stick to the college world series and coming in here claiming picking the rays was some sort of indictment on your capping abilities... best of luck the rest of the series, I'll be looking for your picks.

IF MY AUNT HAD BALLS SHE'D BE MY UNCEL...

THE RAYS HAD THEIR CHANCES AND THEY PHILLIES HAD THEIR CHANCES TO SCORE AT LEAST 4 TO 5 MORE RUNS
MAYBE U DIDNT WATCH THE WHOLE GAME....
