Found this very interesting. What a job Rays management has done locking in the core of this team through 2011 for the most part.
Shields, Kazmir, Price, are tied up for at least the next 3 years, along with the core of their bullpen. Garza, Jackson, and Sonnastine's contracts are up, but top recruit Wade Davis could be a possible replacement if they don't want to pay Garza. I'm sure Sonnastine, or Jackson could be signed for a workable contract as well.
The meat of their lineup will also remain in tact for the foreseeable future. Longoria is signed long term for a sweet heart deal to say the least. Pena is signed thru 2010, and Tampa has control of Crawford, Iwamura, and Badelli with club options. Will be interested to see what they do with BJ Upton, Jason Bartlett, and Dionner Navarro as their contracts expire at the end of this season.
Needless to say they have the core of their important players tied down. They will have a top of the line rotation for the next 3-5 seasons, and a very dependable bullpen with a countless number of effective arms. To say they are just as set on offense would be an understatement. They have the middle of their lineup signed long term.
Are we seeing the beginning of a new dynasty in the AL East?
