As I was reviewing the potential bowl projections on cfn, I noticed that so many of the teams that they projected would be playing pseudo home games. Living here in Dallas, I have seen bowls do terrible such as the Fort Worth Bowl (now the Bell Helicopters Armed Forces Bowl). Charging more money per ticket than a regular home game to see TCU play Rice is not going to help ticket sales.

With the economy in serious trouble will this be the year that NCAA/Universities get together and say a playoff will be better for the college football world than the BCS games like the Orange Bowl which can't give tickets away.

I love the 32 (I think) Bowl games as gambler and a fan of CFB, but the vast majority of bowls draw less people than an SMU basketball practice. I just don't know how most of these bowls can survive. As you can see by the high number of name changes to so many bowls, I think sponsors are beginning to rethink whether putting their name next to the Toliet Bowl brought to you by (Company to soon be in bankruptcy), as worthwhile.

Will this be the cataylst for getting rid of some of these bowl games. I mean really who gives a damn about the New Orleans Bowl. I know Sun Belt fans and teams sure don't, based on the paltry attendance. Expecting fans to travel and pay nearly double the ticket price of a regular season game, I think will have a tremendous impact, as I believe this will be one of the worst attended bowl seasons.

Everyone wants to talk about tradition and similiar things, it time to realize what college football has become and arms race between (USC, FL, AL, OSU, OU, TX, UGA, ND, and some others and failure is no longer an option). I don't think that Ohio State and Georgia fans are going to be very excited about being in the Capital One Bowl, as they thought in the preseason their team would be playing for all the marbles.

I believe this year will lead to some sort of change, it may not be immediate, but certainly within the next few years.

In a bad economy how do you expect the same group of fans to travel to a new game sight 3 weeks in a row?
