Just one week after a historic election the Poker Players Alliance is pitted in a fight to keep anti-Internet poker regulations from being enacted and we NEED YOUR HELP!

The current Administration is hastily finalizing a number of “midnight rules” before they leave office and the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) is on the list. See the 11/06 story in Dow Jones. Just like UIGEA was snuck into legislation in the dark of night in 2006, our opponents are again trying an 11th hour sneak job. We need you to help us expose and stop this reckless rulemaking.

Please call the U.S. Federal Reserve and tell them not to approve the UIGEA regulations -- Consumer Complaints, 888-851-1920 or Public Affairs, 202-452-2955.

Tell them:

  • The federal agencies responsible for our nation’s economy should not be focused on Internet poker regulations.
  • Finalization of the UIGEA rules will add additional burdens on our already crippled financial systems.
  • Internet poker is a game of skill and form of recreation for millions of Americans; it should be exempted from the UIGEA.
  • Please do not finalize the UIGEA regulations until their impact on our banking systems and average Americans has been fully studied.
Tell us how the call went by clicking here.

Your call will make a huge difference and will add the public’s voice to these last minute policy decisions our government is poised to make. We can’t stand idly by while they make decisions that will impact our right to play America’s card game. PLEASE CALL TODAY!

Proud to play,
Alfonse D’Amato, Chairman

"In the name of God, go!"

Please make some calls, guys. This is a fight we could actually win. Our goal is achievable: we only need to delay the implementation of these regulations until noon on January 20th. The more noise we make, the more publicity we gain, the less capable the outgoing administration becomes to sneak these lame duck regulations onto the books.

With a respectful nod to those (tragically few) Republicans like Senator D'Amato and Congressman Paul who still believe in getting government off our backs, the Bush administration needs to be reminded of Oliver Cromwell's declaration to the rump Parliament seated before he took office:

"You have been sat too long here for any good you have been doing. Depart, I say, and let us have done with you. In the name of God, go!"

From what I remember, sports bettors get screwed either way with this bill? This is more of a fighting chance for poker players?

The UIGEA screws both sports gamblers and poker players. The law makes it harder for everyone to move money to and from sportsbooks (it's why we all lost our Neteller accounts). But the law is open ended, allowing the Treasury Department to draw up new financial rules whenever it wants, without the passage of additional legislation. That's what's happened now. The administration, acting through Treasury, has written and recommended another complete set of restrictions on moving money to and from books.

The reason we're asking people to contact the Fed is that under UIGEA the Fed is the body that has to approve Treasury's recommendations. If we can convince the Fed to say no, or, more likely, just not to act at all on Treasury's recommendations through January 20th, it is expected that the new Obama administration's Treasury department will withdraw the regulations completely.

One can't move money worth a shit now, thus what's the big deal?

We are screwed until this is TOTALLY overhauled and made legal.

I myself have had absolutely no problem at all moving money around to and from sportsbooks. Neteller was but a small inconvenience.

It would be absolutely huge for the industry if they don't implement these regulations. If they do implement them, it still may not be to bad but we don't want to risk it.

Dear Alfonse,

I would be happy to work with the Poker Players Alliance in fighting the UIGEA if you can give me any assurances that your organization won't hesitate to throw us under the bus in order to carve out a special poker exemption.

For our purposes I think we should leave number 3 out. Don't say anything about poker. Just mention points 1, 2, and 4 of the OP's highlighted points. I think they may consider you a poker addict if you mention poker. Just tell them you are conserned about its impact on the financial system.

Wynn mark my words that the PPA would not hesitate to throw sports betting under the bus if it means freedom for them. They have already made this clear.

But you should still call as these regulations will hurt poker and sports betting if implemented.

I'm pretty cynical about the impact of making such calls but I'll do it since I don't see how it could hurt.

Completely agree with you. Sure it isnt as easy as it was 3 years ago but it is easier then it was 10 years ago. Depends on how you look at it and I choose to roll with the punches. I think people having trouble moving money are making a much bigger deal out of this then they need to, just do what you have to do and be done with it is the way I look at it.

I have w/d and deposited more times than I can count in past 2 years and nothing other then waiting a little longer is different, waiting in line to deposit (5 minutes maybe) and waitng a few extra days to get paid. I just w/d 3k from Heirtage last week and called them on Monday around noon and had a check at my door step wednesday morning. No questions asked. I deposited the check wedsnesday afternoon. Hell I am not sure in the Neteller days I could have had my money in my bank that fast. Like I said it isnt great but you move on, there are options out there, IMO.
