I voted for 2-7 thinking it would be worse cus 23 can make a straight but actually the 7 high and the fact that 2-7 can make 2 different straights gives it a slight edge....

not to mention 2-3 is dominated by 2-7. Granted 2-3 against 2-7 all in preflop is prolly going to have a lot of chopped pots however if you are holding 2-3 you have only 3 outs without hitting the straight or a 4 card Flush.

Can't make a straight of flush with 2-7 off?

You can make a 4 card flush or a 4 card straight with 2-7 off. If your 2-3 is made to a straight by 3-4-5-6 on the board, 7 high straight beats 6 high straight.

The numbers in PPP's post show statistically that the worst hand is 2-3 off.

2-7 dominates 2-3 just like AJ is dominated by AK.

in heads up 2 Spades & 7 diamonds vs. 2 clubs & 3 spades

2-7 would win 55.62% of the time
2-3 would win 25.96% of the time
chop 18.42% of the time

It's 23o. In a multi-way pot 23o would have more equity because of it's ability to make a straight but HU 27o has higher equity because of the 7's high card value.

The question wasn't 2-3o vs 2-7o. Obviously 2-7 dominates in that situation.

wow its a pretty simple answer, the key to understand is heads up, heads up 23o is the worst starting hand because given the range of your opponent you have pretty much no value in playing it. In pots where there are multiple players, 2-7 is worse because 23 (as most connecters) plays much better to get paid off because it has chances to hit more disguised powerful hands, EG. on an A 4 5 board your 23 stands to get paid much much more of the time (vs AK, AQ, etc.) than playing 27 in a multi way pot on a board of 7 7 2 or another flop of that sort...
