Due to poster feedback The Rx.com has decided to condense the lightly viewed Off Topic Forums at the bottom of the front page which are closed effective immediately. All discussion formerly posted in The Casino, Heath and Fitness, Computer and Tech Help and The Entertainment Forum will now be allowed to be discussed here in The Offshore Forum.

The closed forums will be left visible until January 1st 2009, if you have any threads you would like moved to The Offshore Forum simply email Sportsavant@therx.com with either a link to the thread or the exact thread title and date of latest post. He will move those threads up here ASAP.

Please also note the The Financial Investment Room has now been moved in with Politics and World Events.

Thank you, wilheim..

Could you explain what you mean by poster feedback?

Was there a survey that went out, a poll for this somewhere?

I would appreciate your honest answer.

And sportsavant's email is spelled incorrectly in the link.
Thanks.

Poster feedback is when posters complain about existing policy or simply receommend changes to existing policy. The Off Topic argument has been going for years. Sorry if anyone missed the threads on the subject over the years.

For the record.

We thought about having a separate totally off topic forum and make this forum strictly sports and gambling and as you can see by the poll above the idea barely missed passing.

Instead of two separate forums one for sports and gambling and another for all things Off Topic (which was voted down by two votes anyway) we went with a separate forum for the most frequently discussed off topic subjects such health and fitness, entertainment, computer and tech issues and financial matters (now in political and world events froums).

By themselves these off topic forums were very slow plus many posters were upset when their OT threads were moved from this forum to one of the minor and low volume singular topic forums such as computer and tech issues for example.

I know that we cannot please all of the people all of the time and we took that into consideration when we decided to condense the OT forums into the around 30% or so already off topic offshore forum.

This Offshore Forum draws only a small percentage of our overall traffic forum wise, so any additional traffic here is welcome, especially if that same traffic was not attracting hardly any attention and basically dieing on the vine when it had it's own forum such as health and fitness.

bottom line:

we tried some "off topic" forums such as health, fitness, entertainment etc, but unfortunatly, they didnt get much response at all, in a nutshell, they didnt work.

not only that, by adding those forums people then began to feel guilty about posting anything "offtopic" offshore. So there was a double negative going on:

1) dead off topic forums
2) less discussion offshore.

GD, it wasnt that long ago that all these Off Topic Forums (health etc) DID NOT exist.... we have simply "rolled back" to those days....

anyway, thats my opinion.....

Even the poll above which was about a different but similar topic shows that a large percentage of the posting community wasnt happy with the Off Topic forums.... Creating an "Off Topic" room was not the answer as voted upon, but "rolling back" to the way it was before was ultimatley decided.

GD,

Do you also disagree with the merge of Finance with Politics? Everyone in the Politics thread was talking Finance anyway, the sell sell sell thread is one of the busiest threads at the RX.

For The Record.

The four forums that were discontinued were averaging less that 8 active threads per day combined. Esentially an average of less than two active threads each every 24 hours so after several months of discussions the decision was made by Rx.com management (after plenty of poster feedback) to condense three of the threads (Entertainment, Health and Fitness and online Casinos) into The Offshore Forum. The fourth froum (Financial) was merged into The World Events and Politics Forum mainly because there is a lot of stock market discussion in that forum.

I don't see where moving these topics here to The Offshore Forum will cause The Rx.com to become a a tout only forum and bereft of any intellectual discussion of gambling value.

During the discussion regarding whether or not to eliminate some basically dead forums the subject of unhappy posters came up. The reality of the matter is while there is a clique of posters who are happy with each other and frequent The Offshore Forum and The Rubber Room that is all well and good, but we are not going to run the forum to make a single and small group of posters happy.

During the last several months The Rx.com has done it's best to improve the entire forum. We have upgraded our VBulletin version (not free), we added Private Messaging (by poster request) and just this week added a third server that is scheduled to come online by Monday to increase forum navigation. The moderators work around the clock to keep spammers, pornagraphers, online pharmacies, and just plain abusive posters off the site. Rx Tech support is still fighting off DDOS attacks but some posters will offer wagers as to what time of day the forum will slow down even though we are in the midst of a DDOS attack.

Yes we have a service play thread, one that has been here for years but scattered all over the various forums, just this year we spearated it from the regular sport forums by giving it it's own single thread a day forum instead of having the posts spread all over the sport forum in season.

The moderators have helped hundreds of players resolve all kinds of problems with various sportbooks (and not just our own sponsors). I have the emails to proove it.

We try to run as many free or inexpensive but lucrative contests as possible. We spend huge money every year on a free Bash in Las Vegas.

Despite all this posters like GreenDoberman get upset because the new software created "baloons" if your mouse ran over the top of an unopened thread, something that is very common all around the internet. Now because we reduce the number of forums because they are for all intents and purposes dormant the site's sole purpose is to shake money from it's posters.

The truth of the matter however is that it is the rank and file members who frequent the sport forums who support the site day in and day out and are responsible for the very substantial growth the site has enjoyed over the last four years.

Finally "There are many others that have asked me to be their voice on this. Rest assured, some may be your friend, neighbor, perhaps even coworker. We all want this site to thrive, both posters and employees, and hopefully along with that return to some semblance of community".

I am pretty sure I earn my salary, so any friends, neighbors, and coworkers should not need a spokesman, I am always available to listen.

Thank you, wilheim

I don't like the idea as the offshore forum should be about casinos & sportsbooks while the other sections can be more open.
