Obama makes a play for college football playoff

NEW YORK (AP) — It's not exactly at the top of his agenda, but President-elect Barack Obama says there should be a college football playoff to determine a national champion. In fact, he knows exactly what he wants — an eight-team playoff.
In an interview with "60 Minutes," Obama addresses a subject college football fans have debated for many years, and says he will use his influence to create such a system.
"If you've got a bunch of teams who play throughout the season, and many of them have one loss or two losses, there's no clear decisive winner. We should be creating a playoff system," he tells CBS' Steve Kroft in an interview to be broadcast Sunday.
According to Obama's proposed system, eight teams would play over three rounds to settle the national champion.
"It would add three extra weeks to the season," he said at the conclusion of a wide-ranging interview. "You could trim back on the regular season. I don't know any serious fan of college football who has disagreed with me on this. So, I'm going to throw my weight around a little bit. I think it's the right thing to do."

Okay, so you all want a playoff.............do Ball St, Boise St, and Utah all make your "8 team playoff"?

Here is the thing, for those of you that so desperately want a playoff, if its done, do it right.

How about we just send ONE team from every conference to a playoff!? Then I could go for it. If you can't even win your conference, then you shouldn't go..............just like EVERY major sport SHOULD be.............screw wild cards.

Playoffs are nothing but a financial incentive to those involved...........in every sport. It doesn't necessarily crown a 'TRUE CHAMPION".

For instance, in baseball, if a team wins 120 games during the regular season and than loses to a wild card they defeated 11 out of 12 times during the season and then lose 4-3 in a 7 game playoff, why is the wild card team the better team??????

PLAYOFFS ARE AN AMERICAN JOKE

In fact, sports as a whole are worthless except for the players and their families involved.........it keeps the youth of America in better overall health and also keeps them off the street and out of trouble, that is the best thing about sports.

Being a fan and caring who is #1 is of little priority compared to the many other things sports provides. The people that do make it #1 are degenerate sports fans.

This is one of the MANY reasons that JOE PATERNO is one of my favorite coaches.

If your a person that wants a true champion, go back to how it was done in the early 60's in MLB, ONE team from each league playing in the World Series........against a team they never faced during the regular seaon.

One of the reasons baseball in the 50's and 60's was awesome.

No non-sense wild card BULLSHIT, and REAL PENNANT RACES.

Understand, if CFB goes to a playoff, it will be made into a farce........and hell, 20 years from now we would probably have a "64 team playoff" instituted, meaning any team that goes .500 would qualify. They will see the money generated from the degenrates in the 8 team playoff and expand it in no time.

Look, OBAMA is a basketball guy, so you know he creams his jeans on a daily basis during CBB's "BIG FRAUD".......err, I mean "BIG DANCE".

Nothing he wouldn't like better than to have a 64 team CFB playoff so Northwestern and Northern Illinois can participate in a couple years per decade.

"ONE SHINING MOMENT"

I like baseball better without wild cards, interleague play and designated hitters. I LOVE THE WS! It was a better game in the 1960's. Especially the year the mighty Yankees lost in game 7 to the Pirates!

It's pretty easy:

6 BCS Conf Champions
1 Top rated Non BCS Team
1 BCS Conf wildcard (highest ranked, for great teams that by fluke did not win Conf - like maybe USC).

Maybe even a play-in game between the 2 top-rated non-BCS teams, like they do for hoops.

Cut out 1 game from regular season, add in some poll-penalty for playing directional/1AA schools, and we'd have fixed up most of college football.

What amazes me is that The Press, brings this subject up to the President of the US!
Just wait till Congress has hearings on how Team A which went undefeated, never got to play for The National Championship. Players mental health suffered and now--you know the next question.:drink:

I knew you were a bright fellow Fish. But a "B". (Maaybe you left out some Bowl game.) Seems to me some corporation adds a new bowl each year or so.
Where is the Exon Bowl or the Smith and Wesson gun bowl, etc?

Thank you. Remember when only one Big 10 team could make a bowl?

The only president that can make a playoff happen is Big Ten Commisioner Jim Delaney he calls the shots in college football along with the pac 10 commisioner and they dont want any part of it right now. They control all the big TV markets so a playoff would have to give these 2 conferences more money then the others.

Here is an argument that needs to be added to the mix.

Yesterday I watched Fla.,TexTech,Penn St.,Alabama and even USC and I'm sure many more passing the fucking ball up big with minutes to go in the game.

We all know why but it still sucks for the kids on the other side of the ball.

And I saw injuries, guys going down in garbage time and was the teams players getting thrashed that were getting hurt for the most part as they are out of gas, dehydrated and so forth.

A playoff system would end this horse shit as run clock get off the field and save your starters for the playoff run.

That and the bookies would be happier............LOL

Im going to petition to be on the committee that designs the playoff system.........so at least it gets done halfway correctly.
