I don't know anyone who follows it either, but isn't NASCAR your 2nd biggest "sports" organization after the NFL?

I follow it.

It is the largest spectator sport in America.

I don't see that sport dying any time soon.

"Largest Spectator sport??? Hello, there is something called the NFL. Nascar may get 100,000 to 150,000 to watch a race but there are 16 games with about 70,000 fans in each stadium every Sunday and the Super Bowl gets 100 million plus viewers. Hello:think2:

Its gone in its present form in 3 ys or less. Could even be next yr, GM goes under, Ford goes under, etc...These guys aint goin to pay to see hybrids and hondas running around the track. The fuel will be restricted under new govt regulations and doubtful they will allow it used for recreational purposes like racing. Nobody will watch 3 cyl 7 speeds running on 55% ethanol either.....

It doesnt matter what the people want, its about saving the planet.........

Nascar is no way imo as good now as it was yrs back.big money has killed this sport and just heard on the local news here a few days ago Nascar is laying off people now and that the teams next yr will not be able to work out the bugs in their cars at major tracks until race week.too many races and no offseason to speak of is another thing wrong with this sport.

I follow Nascar, and I agree it isn't what it use to be when it was ONLY about racing. Nowadays Nascar let the sponsors predict how the races are ran and the whole fucked up deal that Im giving you $100 million dollars a year you do as I say.

And also Nascar has just about PRICED itself out of business it has gotten to where the average person really can't afford to go to the races anymore. I started going to Nascar races in 1986 and the price of a ticket was $24.00, go today and the price of a ticket is $105.00. I use to could go to the races and be there for 2-3 days and only spend $100.00, today it cost me $500.00 for the same 2-3 days.

And look it up it is the 2nd biggest watched sport next to the NFL and the Super Bowl. Some of the big name drivers are making between $25-$30 million dollars a yr.

I don't follow it, but see many similarities between the growth of NASCAR and the NHL into markets outside of their base. The NHL in the south makes as much sense as NASCAR at the Joliet Speedway.

I live between Joliet and the MIS Speedway in Michigan. I see a lot of the traffic that goes to these races and there are many from out-of-state. NASCAR gets many Grateful-Dead type crowds, ones who go from race to race. A few years ago, ESPN rated Chicago the worst NASCAR market. Love the NASCAR marketing them in Chicago when Joliet is a pretty good distance outside Chicago and gets zero pub in the papers..

It is not for everybody, but for those that follow, it is very interesting.

Sometimes it is like a chess match at 200 mph.

Used to love it, now don't even follow it. Boring racing, robotic personalities, too much commercialism, too many races per season.
