I disagree with most of what you posted, but yeah they have bigger things to be doing than trying to stop people from betting online.

Who is "they" and what are "they" voting on? Seems a little short on specifics.

All the government is trying to do is to protect us from making bad bets. Our wellfare is all they are concerned with.

I am interested in learning more about the UIGEA. Are you saying that the lobby money responsible for attaching sports gambling to a bill designed to protect the nation's ports from terrorist attacks ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SAFE_Port_Act ) was powered by professional US sports leagues ? Thats interesting. Are you saying that US sports leagues think that US sports fans are weak and spineless and are different from sports fans in the rest of the world and require government intervention to save themselves and their athletes from self destructions? I am interested in this spin on morals and self control but am grateful that US sports leagues are spending midnight legislation lobbyist money with my welfare in mind. I am also considering the possibility that you are not well informed and that it was Las Vegas gambling interests who were most interested in my welfare and funded the corrupt craven worthless republican predators responsible for this intrusion on my freedoms.

There is a chance that the UIGEA will not make it past 2009. There is a law made in 1996 that allows for overturning of laws or regs passed after November 1st of the outgoing presidents administration. UIGEA is already being considered to be overturned by Obama and crew. If that doesn't happen, iMEGA is going to court to fight it. The banks hate it and they are lobbying hard to get rid of it.

The UIGEA does not cover incoming payments to you only outgoing payments to books. And it doesn't incriminate the bettor or even the books, just financial institutions in the US who knowingly process illegal online gambling money moving out to the book or poker room. Its a law that even if it makes it through is unlikely to stop the status quo of internet gambling.

Online poker will probably be legalized next year too. What affect this will have on the offshore books is yet to be seen. Also I don't believe the Obama feds will be as gun ho about going after internet gambling as the Bushies were.
