Got sent this article.. Classic. Just a horrible case of events.

Date: November 24th, 2006

The Play: Toronto +3.5 @ Atlanta (Not sure of the size, but I can guarantee you it was a lot higher % of my bankroll than my plays are now. By a lot higher I mean over 10-12% of my bankroll.)

At the time, I was an innocent degenerate on the eve of my 20th birthday and had begun what ultimately was an overhaul of the way I thought about everything, mainly sports betting. I don't know what the other circumstances were, but based off the 60/40 split at wagerline, I can tell I was not exactly a refined contrarian. The bet was definitely placed at pinnacle, before quasi armageddon occurred.

The video clip below starts off with the Raptors down 7 with 4:42 left in the fourth quarter:

20 Second Mark (4:42 left in the game): Johnson makes one of two free throws. His made free throw is mistakenly put on the board for Toronto, changing the score to Atl 85, Tor 79. (Real score 86-78 Atlanta).

NBA.com got it right:

29 Second Mark (4:33 left): TJ Ford makes an acrobatic layup to cut the lead to 6(Real score 86-80). Unfortunately, it is not counted by the scorers in Atlanta, nor NBA.com:

40 Second Mark (4:25 left): Lue makes a runner. Atlanta is quickly given 3 points, to make up for the point that was not put up after Johnson's free throw. They fail to acknowledge Ford's basket though. Score is wrong on the screen, announcers say it's 88-78 (Actual: 88-80). But what do you know, the play by play got it fixed:

The clip ends with Bosh getting fouled and going to the line. The score on the screen shows 88-79 Atlanta, although it should actually read 88-80. At some point over the next 4+ minutes of game time, the scorekeepers in Atlanta took the point off of the scoreboard that they mistakenly gave Toronto after Johnson's free throw.. How they took that point off without realizing that Toronto was actually now missing two points I'm not sure.

Final scoring play on the NBA.com play by play (notice the score):

And then the final score if you scroll to the top of the play by play page:

I contacted both nba.com as well as pinnacle to try and turn my graded losing ticket into a winner. NBA.com's response was that they acknowledged the error, but the game was final so there was nothing they could do about it. Pinnacle's response was that they take the scores from nba.com, so there is nothing they could do about it.

Awesome half point loss. So all you Pittsburgh backers from last week, shitty things happen every year. And holy shit...vegas wasn't on the winning side this time.
