Saw it last night. TERRIBLE.
Would be a great movie for MST 3000 though. Which means it had some laughably bad parts.
Early in the movie, the government assembles a group of scientists. Upon being told there is a large object speeding towards Earth, one of the scientists stands up and says "Uh, can we destroy it with a missile?"
I'm not sure if that scene was in the original. But it made me laugh. So the government collects the top scientists in the world, and that's the first idea. "Hey, let's shoot the damn thing!"
Also, if you ever wanted proof that Hollywood leans to the left, this is your movie. Not only do they promote the environment, they also sneak in a mixed marriage.
Oh, and the Secretary of Defense is female (Kathy Bates). Geez, how many agendas can you push in one movie?

The original script from the 1950s version was most certainly created to deliver an anti-war message - more specifically for the time, a message against the misuse of nuclear weapons.
Just watched it again a few nights ago, but came in about 30 minutes after start so not sure if it included a notion that the object approaching could be shot down by a missile.

I just watched the movie, its horrid, not just from a script point of view, but an editing point of view,
The MAIN message they try to convey to Keanu is that Man can change, and the movie attempts to show that (to me) unsuccessfully, storyline for all the changes they did make was WEAK at best,
I like keaunu movies, and this one is his worst,
Oh and by the way, that biracial relationship thing, That stupid biotch needed to slap the shitoutof her black son!! I mean like hard, or go ghetto style and throw a shoe upside his head!! what a punk!

Having sleep on it, thinking back I didnt like it.
For all the money they spent, my guess 100+ million ... I don't see them breaking any records.
Best part of the movie was Jenifer Connelly ... she looks hot.
Other than that ... it wasnt very good.As for the story/ending ... I havent seen the original but it was just wasnt any good.
I don't see many if any, repeat movie goers for this one. Numbers should fall like a rock after the opening weekend.
