Raise to $175 about 30% of the time, Call 70% of the time

you cant just throw it away vs a player who can have anything.
but you cant just call then miss the flop and have no idea where you stand.

If you raise to $175 and he calls you better hit your 5.

For me this really depends on how the table has been playing.

If there has been a lot of aggressive play, with a lot of reraising,
I would fold. Because, if you call - then someone in late position
reraises, you're really in a bad spot.

If the table has been passive, seeing a lot of cheap flops, I would
call part of the time, and raise part of the time.

I don't think this is really a donkey question, because there is a case
for folding, calling and raising.

I would just call. I would not re-raise here because if he comes back over the top, I'm fucked. I'd really like to spike a set here and break him, so i am perfectly content to just take a flop for $40 and play from there.

A fold would be incredibly weak here. This is not a tournament, this is a cash game where you have much higher implied odds. Sets are much more valuable in cash games typically. Plus, you have position on the initial raiser, so you can always bluff him if he looks weak after the flop.

Both cards are the 5 of dimaonds.?.? I'd fold and start looking for another poker site.

I agree with most of this. But if the raise gets you to heads up you have already represented a strong hand raising. So even if a 5 does not come you have position on him and that needs to be used. He checks, you steal. He bets you could raise him. Or call and after the turn he might not think he has the best hand and check than you can steal.

I have seen and done this and its not over cause you didn't hit a set. In NL no hand is ever over if you see weakness from the other dude.
