OT: Verizon FiOS - Anyone have it? Thoughts?

Until recently, the only option where I live was Time Warner, which blows. It looks like fios would cost about the same (+/- $10) and provide far more hd channels.
Can't decide whether or not it's worth the hassle to have them come install it, cancel with TW, etc.
Any current or former user opinions?

YES!!!!!! I switched from Dish Network about a month ago. Love it. Much better quality of HD stuff than what I had. The installation dude really knew his stuff too. If you can bundle with internet and phone, it is a must. Great channel selection as well.

I have Cablevision and i am waiting for months for Vios to move into my area.

They are literally like 5 blocks away from me, but not on mine yet

Similar story for me. It is aggravating having it so close but not on your street.

Comcast doubled their internet speeds here this month.

Exactly what has to happen for Verizon FIOS to get an ok. I've been waiting awhile to get it. Could Cox be the reason they aren't in particular neighborhoods yet?

Verizon decides where they want to install it. Nothing to do with Cox.
I imagine Verizon starts with neighborhoods with higher density.

FWIW, Verizon customer service is trash (especially compared to Cox).

Guy I know well, had Cox and when Verizon Fios came in, he switched to it and told me; Cox doesn't even begin to compare to Verizon's Fios quality. As far customer service goes, you may be correct. I've had good experience with Verizon so far. Cox no problems either. But in this area all you see is Cox in the malls.

Patiently awaiting FIOS in my area should happen in Q1 of 2009 according to them.

I'm going to jump all over it when it's available, because I don't see how anything could possibly be better.

It will be nice to have internet 3 times faster and be able to kiss having a dish goodbye.

fios is leaps and bounds better than what cablevision and comcast have to offer. But, like juice said, their customer service is atrocious in terms of billing and tech support. Another negative for people in the tri state area is that you lose knicks and rangers in hd because cablevision has the rights to them.

RCN here has 20Mbs internet lines (i love downloading porn faster than I can actually watch it...), and a bunch of HD. Dunno what Fios could possibly do better.

...now if one of these non-satellite companies could get sunday ticket, i might think about jumping ship.

Very happy w/ FIOS ..............but i keep DTV on 1 set for football package .........other then that DTV suks in the rain an wind....

Thanks for the responses. Sounds pretty good so far. How is the "on demand" feature with FIOS. I know we use the comcast on demand all the time catching up on HBO and Showtime series and a lot of Diego and other kids shows for the kiddies. Thats one of my bigger concerns, I'm hoping FIOS can at least come close to matching comcasts selection of On Demand.

You can't get NFL sunday ticket (it's exclusive to DTV for the time being). Everything else you should be able to.

I've had the FIOS installed for over a week now. I can happily report I'm very happy with it and it was worth the switch from Comcast.

*way more HD channels with FIOS, and probably more non-HD channels as well

*better deal, especially for the first year. Even after that all the equipment cahrges are cheaper

*picture and signal quality is about the same as comcast, no noticable difference in either HD or non HD.
