If both carriers are GSM and use a sim card, there are unlock codes you can buy for virtually any blackberry. Typically you send them yout IMEI# and for a price they send you back an unlock code...

you guys know not of what you speak...verizon phones run on a cdma network...no IMEI and no SIM card...ATT runs off GSM network, entirely different networks and technologies and different insides on the phones....but for laughs, call att and tell them what you wanna do, after the guy laughs at you you can order a new phone

jus sell ur blackberry pearl on ebay/craigslist and sign up for new one with ATT.....u will get a good deal by doing a contract...etc

prolly will sell ur pearl for 50-100$ ...100 selling right now used for in that range depending on condition.

then on ATT site u can get a new/refurb one for 99$ new and 69$ refurb.

so u may be able to MAKE money depending on how u sell/buy and wether u go refurb or not.

you cant 'unlock' a cdma phone from verizon, they arent 'locked' there's nothing to 'lock' its a term not used with the type of phone....verizon phones can only be used on verizons network....unless you flash the rom in the phone, at which point you 'might' be able to use it on cricket's network...no where else....i know all about this...t mobile is gsm, wont work there either....

good advice, so long as your esn (not IMEI) is clear (meaning:you dont owe any money on the contract/account at verizon)...this would be your best option...no way no how will that phone ever work on att/tmobile's network

Geoff if I wanted to give my iPhone 3G to someone else on my plan could I do that with switching the sim card? I tried it and it didn't work... do I need to contact ATT first?

That one, Im not sure about, the Iphone is kind of an odd duck in the cell phone world...your question would probably be best addressed through ATT tech support ;-)

ummm, actually I DO get it...CDMA phones are not locked...they cant be locked...only GSM phones are locked...so saying you can unlock a verizon phone (CDMA) by giving them the IMEI (which does not exsist on a CDMA phone) is incorrect...if you call verizon and ask for the IMEI# they will not know what you are talking about...becuase it isnt locked. CDMA phones have an ESN (electronic serial number) used to identifiy it on a specific network. it's embedded in the ROM. A verizon phone, has an ESN that identifies itself as a verizon phone, and you cant even activate on a Sprint network, because of that. GSM phones are identified by IMEI#'s...apples and oranges...i could go on and on...I have experience with this stuff first hand, intimately....CDMA phones have a Master Subsudiy Lock code, which really only allows you to program new phone numbers into it and reset it...even with the MSL you cannot 'unlock' a CDMA phone to be used on a GSM network...

you do have to contact the att... and to answer original poster's question, you can not switch verizon phone to be used at ATT ot T-mobile. Like someone already mentioned, two different technologies. go check it out at www.howardforums.com

(charley browns teachers voice here)

see, you still don't understand.
I was talking about, strictly, unlocking a cell phone. look up above at the thread title "unlocking a cell phone?".
I said, it is VERY EASY TO UNLOCK A CELL PHONE. I then posted examples of the BLACKBERRY PEARL unlocking.

If you have an iphone from AT&T and you want to use it on T-Mobile. YOU DO NOT CALL AT&T. hahaha
You unlock it with a software program: http://www.quickpwn.com/ (free, make sure your firmware works with it) and then you are able to put in a T-Mobile sim and use the phone as you wish

jailbreaking your phone also allows you to install any third party (non-approved) apps on your iphone/touch. if you want to use a T-mobile sim in an AT&T phone. you DO NOT CALL AT&T to tell them
