Wow - 646lb Catfish Caught

Fishers in northern Thailand netted this huge catfish in the Mekong River on May 1. Nearly nine feet long (2.7 meters) and as big as a grizzly bear, the behemoth tipped the scales at 646 pounds (293 kilograms). Experts say the fish, which belongs to the species known as the Mekong giant catfish, may be the largest freshwater fish ever recorded.

Pretty damn impressive they were able to reel that thing in, though catfish is a pretty nasty, bottom feeding fish.

Fried catfish with good hush puppies and lots of hot sauce and a dash of ketchup is pretty money!

The Mekong giant Catfish: It sounds like a freak-show exhibit from Barnum’s American Museum. In fact, it was hauled from northern Thailand’s Mekong River last month by a team of fishermen. At 9 feet long and 646 pounds, the giant cat is the largest freshwater fish ever caught. Unfortunately, it could not be kept alive and subsequently fed the local village.
