Are the Yankees going to be the betting favorite to win it with Sabathia and Burnett?

I think they have to be with all that offensive firepower and a rotation that looks like this:

Sabathia
Wang
Burnett
Joba

That's downright scary if injuries don't kill em again.

That would be my prediction is both of them get hurt and the Yanks bats underachieve. Go Cardinals.

They can spend all that money, but they will not win a championship in 09.

Yankees and Red Sox have to be the favorites. Phillies will be 3rd probably.

the next big game sabathia wins will be his first. he does not have the personality or composure to handle new york. upgrade? of course. but still work to be done.

The New York Yankees are the biggest joke in sports right now.

2 of the 4 (dunno which) will each miss 1/2 the season with injurres and yanks miss playoffs by 3-4 games.

Its almost like theyre anticipating it...know one would build a rotation like that when your not expecting injuries. Just too much money and effort.

They almost made the playoffs last year without nearly their entire rotation... Can't agree with ya.

Almost?...wasnt it like 9.5 games?

After they got eliminated I don't think anyone cared about the remaining games. And it was close right up till the last few weeks. Not bad for a team starting a AAA rotation IMO.

Yankees will pull a cubs. They are going to rape the regular season. They win the East easily. And get knocked out in the first round because Wang and Sabathia blow dick in the playoffs.

Major Yankee fan here, nobody bigger.
Let's look at this with a level head.

All Sabathia does is replace Moose's 20 wins.
(Moose won more games since 2001 than any other major league pitcher not named Oswalt-look it up)
Burnett is insonsistent, and an injury waiting to happen.
He had the good fortunte to have a career year to coincide with his contract year.
Feeling here is AJ will be the second coming of Pavano.
Wang is a steady starter, however, before his injury the rest of the league was starting to solve his sinker.
Hughes has crappy work ethics, and like AJ spends a ton of time of the DL.
Kennedy is a AAAA pitcher, better than AAA, will never quite be an effective big league starter.
Joba? Bullpen? Starter.
Chamberlain's role is still up in the air.
Pettitte is unsigned, and if he does come back, his best days are behing him.
Mo is closer to 40 in age now than 35.

Who's going to replace Abreu's 20-100 .300 20 SB's?
Not Cameron or Nady.
Swisher is not Giambi, even when hitting .240, you could still count on Giambi for a .350 + OBA.
Posada is coming off a major injury, getting older and is a big question mark.
LF is a big question mark.

This team is a major question mark.

Bill,

Agree with you on AJ Burnett. Five year deal and he is going to pitch in about 2.5 years worth imo.

Guy didn't do jack until his final year in TOR

You guys never know with Burnett... Guys with injuries earlier in their careers have really taken off in recent years...

Not without steroids and HGH. They used to, now ???

Sabathia should fit in just fine with A-Rod. Good to great during the regular season, then horrible during the post season with the pressure.

Sabathia has won only one playoff game I believe, and has a post season ERA of about 7.92

He will enjoy the $161 million though.

I wonder if the Yankees will get the bond they were seeking a day before spending $161,000,000.00 on Sabathia?

To be honest, it was only really the last year or two where the Yankees DIDN'T start the season as favourites anyway

After signing CC + AJ then I see no reason that the bookies wont put them back in as favs this year - in fact the few books who are currently offering the World Series already have them as favs at around +650...
