Didn't his Dad just die? Hell when this happened to Farve they praised him and sucked him off on how much courage and such it took to play that game. Now here we are with the samething and no praise for Cassell.

Just shows how much the media sucks on Farve's balls. That is why people get turned off from the media.

I pointed that out in a thread earlier in the week that the announcers were using words like couragous while describing his play.

Great post. Could not agree more. It's not like Cassell is some first year starting QB out of circumstance and Favre is a 3 time MVP and 9 time pro bowler or anything. Why would one story be bigger than the other? I don't get it either TRS.

Still, I'm sure that Cassells Dad meant just as much to him as Favres meant to him.

A 4-5 touchdown game days after your Fathers funeral should be rewarded equally in the media no?

maybe it has something to do with the fact that there is 15 games played today, and when Favre did it it was monday night where that was the only game to talk about. Plus I'm sure it was brought up on several occasions on the Pats broadcast. And I'm sure you will hear about Cassell more than once on the recap tonight.

Brett Farve's father Irvin age 58 died the night before a MNF game featuring Green Bay at Oakland from a heart attack while driving his pick up on Sunday night Dec 21st 2003 in Mississippi. Brett played before a national audience less than 24 hours after losing his dad making for a media frenzy.

Little known Matt Cassel's father Greg died at the age of 57 after a long illness last Monday allowing his son time to attend his dad's funeral and deal with his own grief a little bit and is now also playing the Raiders in Oakland but in a game only televised in local markets (mainly New England, not sure if the game is sold out and being televised in Oakland).

Two very different events as far as the American public is concerned.

When Farve threw four TD passes in the first half it only added fuel to the fire for the media.

In real life both players lost their fathers and neither was any more tragic than the other that I know of. Don't tell the media that though.

Its because matt cassell hasn't thrown a dozen picks in big games like favrve has.

By the way Matt C. manned up.He came out and spoke about 15 words thanking ownership, teamates, friends and fans for support and condolences and left the podium without questions or tears after the game.Instead of making his own Dr Phil show like Favre.

Matt C. took his cue from his coach Belichick.Who when after his father died the night before a game.Coached the way he always coached and told the team after the game about his fathers passing.

Another thing i don't know of more than 5 other QB's playing right now that I'd take over Matt C..

You had me until the last part. Here's who I would take ahead of Cassel, though I think he has proven himself this year.

Manning
Manning
Schaub
Rivers
Ryan
Brees
Favre
Frerotte
Collins
Garcia
McNabb
Romo
Warner

In fairness I will take Frerotte off the list, but would add Rodgers.

I could question a few of those choices, but picking Gus Ferotte over Cassel is totally wrong. Sorry, not a snowball's chance in fucking hell.

In 2008, I would also take Cassel over Rivers, Ryan, Farve, Collins, Garcia & McNabb. Warner is a toss up.

Cassel has the age advantage over all except Ryan & Rivers. Ryan as been protected and doesn't have to win the games for Atlanta. Rivers has LT and is still way too inconsistent.

Cassell has made amazing progress this year, I really like him. He'll be starting for somebody next year, just not NE.
