You need something like adobe image ready to downsize it.

Or maybe windows movie maker might work.

But you need something that can work with animated gifs to size it so it fits

I can do a still avatar myself, but have never had success with an animated one, it comes out as still, when I do it.

hmm maybe my Nero software works. Ill play around with it. Id like to be able to do it also.

Think windows movie maker is free somewhere though

I believe that the animated avatars have to be a certain size (which RobFunk already touched on) as well as a certain amount of file size. I may be wrong here, but I think if the .gif is over a certain number of kilobytes or whatever, it then shows up as a still instead of an animated.
