Pretty sad when a MAC HC turns down a Big 12 job. Although ISU is a SHIT big 12 job its still pretty sad. Lets all guess the loser that Pollard will bring hire......

Ill guess Steve Loney...

Iowa State will in all liklihood pick another dud as their head coach.

It can be said that they have not had a great coach since the legendary Pop Warner was at the helm.......in the late 1800's.

It's a shame, Gill would have been a terriffic hire, and why he would want to stay at Buffalo is beyond me. The Bulls could very easily slip back into obscurity in the next couple years, even under Gill. Let's face it, Buffalo is one of the hardest places to recruit for any coach. The MAC is a very competitive conference and with the loss of Willy, I think the Bulls will be very hard pressed to match their eight win total of this year.

I hope I'm wrong, as I'm a big fan of the BULLS, as it is Billsfan's alma mater and they are her favorite team.........after the Hawkeyes.

They never even had a chance to talk to him. He had a press conference saying he was staying and Pollard hadn't even talked to him. Let me guess, another Hawkeye fan thinking anybody in here gives a shit what you think.

I wonder where Iowa St. ranks on the level of hardest 5 BCS schools to win at in college football. My guess would be

1) Vanderbilt

2) Duke

3) Iowa St.

4) Baylor

5) Northwestern

I don't think Wash St. or Washington would make the bottom 5 I just think those programs are experiencing down times. Thoughts....

IMO unless Gill thinks he could recruit the type of athlete's to Ames, Iowa to compete with Oklahoma and Texas he's probably better off waiting for a better job opportunity to open up. How about taking over at Penn St. when Paterno hangs it up, that would be something. Other possibilities could include Indiana, Purdue, Central Florida, Louisville, Virginia, or Kansas St., if things don't work out for those programs over the next 3 years. I could see him having a better chance of long term success at those programs over Iowa St.

Iowa St. needs to look to someone with heavy recruiting ties to the state of Florida. That program was winning when their former coach Dan McCartney was piping in 15-20 florida HS kids every year.

Turner Gil is an absolute retard. When he wins 2 games next year everyone will forget about him and he will remain in Buffalo

not one bit...I would have LOVED to have Gil but that has nothing to do with it. He blew a nice opportunity IMO. He is losing a bunch of talent and they will not be nearly as good next year. NO QB...I also believe Roosevelt and Starks are leaving? Correct me if I'm wrong...He should have struck while the IRON was hot...could have had Cuse, Iowa St and a few others...even Nebraska wanted him last year and he just stays put. He must love Anchor Bar, Duff's and Jim's steakout too much to leave

LOL, Anchor Bar is overrated though if you ask me....Starks and Roosevelt are both juniors....where did you hear they are leaving?? Also, I heard that he didn't even interview for the Cuse job, did you hear different?

no chance. that job is bradleys. if it were to go to anyone outside of bradley it would schiano (spelling is probably wrong- rutgers coach though).

Not sure why he would want to go to Central Florida. It would certainly be a step up from Buffalo, but now's his chance to go somewhere big, he might not get this opportunity again. If he thinks he can just sit back at Buffalo for another year or two waiting for a bigger name school to call his name like Wisconsin or something he needs to think again. He could easily have a terrible year next year and everyone will forget about him and he will have missed his chance.

I agree with passing up Iowa St, maybe even Syracuse (although that's a school that probably could have been rebuilt to a power in the big east), but there isn't many other places in the bcs i would pass up. if i could go to ucf i would even take it over buffalo, but i would look around to see if any bcs school that wasnt a dead end wanted me first

Arizona Coach Mike Stoops

Television and radio stations in Des Moines are reporting multiple sources are saying Arizona head football coach Mike Stoops is a serious candidate to become Iowa State’s next coach.
Stoops’ team plays BYU in the Las Vegas Bowl, the Wildcats’ first bowl under his direction.
It snowed in Vegas Wednesday, so Stoops could make the adjustment to Ames fairly easily.
Who is Mike Stoops? Well, he played football at Iowa, like his brothers Bob and Mark. Bob Stoops, you may have heard, has been a fairly prominent head coach at Oklahoma. Mark Stoops is Mike’s defensive coordinator at Arizona.
But what about Mike?
His five-year record at Arizona, down-and-out when he got there, is 23-33. He was an assistant coach at Iowa from 1986 to 1991, at Kansas State from 1992 to 1998, and at Oklahoma from 1999 to 2003.
His Arizona teams have gone 3-8, 3-8, 6-6, 5-7 and 7-5. His Pac-10 record is 16-25. This year’s 5-4 conference mark was his best.
He turns 47 on New Year’s Eve.
“Each program is different and I think each one has unique challenges within itself,” Stoops said after Wednesday’s practice in Las Vegas. “I think it’s always up to the administrators to look at their team, to see if they’re headed in a positive direction. And I think that’s evident by the way (we) play; by the way the kids present themselves; the way they compete. And then it becomes an individual choice. Coaches, we just try to do the best we can.”
“… some programs take longer than others, let’s face it,” Stoops said this week. “There’s only so many Oklahomas, Texases and USCs. The rest of us have to work very hard. … but until you get over the hump there’s always going to be pressure.”
Stoops’ offensive coordinator the last two years has been Sonny Dykes, who was co-offensive coordinator at Texas Tech before moving to Tucson.
The Wildcats averaged 37.1 points and 401.2 yards per game this season, up from 28 and 385.2 last year.
