Eric Mangini is out as head coach of the New York Jets, 1050 ESPN Radio and various other New York media outlets are reporting.

Mangini and the Jets missed out on the playoffs after losing to Miami on Sunday. The Jets lost four of their last five games to finish 9-7.
Jets owner Woody Johnson and general manager Mike Tannenbaum will appear at a 10 a.m. ET news conference. Mangini is not expected to attend.

Mangini, 37, was 23-26 in three seasons with the Jets, including 0-1 in the playoffs.

The Jets acquired Brett Favre before the season started and ran off to an 8-3 start. But losses to Denver, at San Francisco, at Seattle and Sunday to the Dolphins left New York on the outside of the playoffs for the second straight season.

I think he'd make a great fit here in Tampa, but the Glazer family just doesn't give enough of a shit to fire Gruden.

I said the same thing last night after the Oakland debacle. I would fire Gruden but that will never happen.

Nothin better than to witness the total demise of the "Stinkin Jets"

Hope they enjoy the AFC East basement for the next few years.

Wow. I don't agree here. This guy improved the franchise and despite the late swoon which was really mostly Favre's fault, he gets the axe?

Favre stays and Manjina goes.
Media outlets throwing Marucci's name around only because of the Favre connection. I honestly think the Jets front office has seen enough of Favre and are ready to move on hoping Brett retires. It doesn't help old QB's after a season where two teams did a 180 (Ravens,Falcons) with rookie QB's.

The Jets need to do everything they can to bring Cowher in. I'm also in favor of ditching Favre. If he didn't do it this year, he's certainly not going to do it next year.

Look for a veteran free agent as a stop gap and groom Ratliff to the the QB of the future.

ESPN is repoting that Cowher will listen to Jets .
Keep your fingers crossed.

Not happening. Rob Ryan will be brought from Oakland to be DC. Romeo and Mangini have decided it best for Romeo to part ways.
