Great explaination, the plot and ending just confused the shit out of me because of the all the other crazy shit that happened in the movie, like I still don't understand the guy in the office that Anton shot because he gave a tracker to the mexicans, who the fuck was that guy, maybe I'm looking into it too much.

As far as Tommy Lee jones, he was trying to say that if he had been there earlier or walked into that Motel room. The Killer was waiting for him.
You saw it in one point, where he was thinking of going into the Motel room and If he went in..He would be Killed.

Just one more question, HOW was Anton involved with the money and drugs in the 1st place, to my recollection he entered the movie strangling that cop, started killing people, than BAM started looking for the money after he shot the two guys in the desert.
Yea the overall theme of the movie is a modern western. The old sheriff hunting down a fugitive. But tommy lee jone character ed bell simply couldn't understand why anton was the way he was. He was used to the world his father taught him but now it seemed the world was just getting worse and worse and that his generations time was over as in no country for old men.

Which what happened was it just was a Bad Drug Deal gone bad.
But the guy that was holding the money, was up on that Hill by the Tree.
Anyway, after almost catching the guy ( forget his name ) That stole the money, They knew who they were looking for.
So they Hired Anton to get the Money and Kill him. A Hired Gun, but not sure they knew that he was that Crazy.
They just knew he was the Best and get's the Job done.
