What about his legs, though?
There's always next year, right?

Seriously though, can one of you explain to me (preferably in non-homer fashion) why you think Dawson should be in when a guy like Raines can't get a sniff?

I'm a Cubs fan.

Santo should be in HOF (but he never will).

Dawson should never sniff HOF.

Raines should be in HOF.

Santo was one of the best 2 or 3 at his position in his era. He has better offensive numbers all the way around than Brooks Robinson and won plenty of gold gloves too.

Not a big Cub fan, but two guys I loved were Banks and Santo...Santo should be there, no question...

Dawson is like the most overrated player of all time.
No way should he be in the Hall of Fame!

Ahhh Rock Raines. I use to love watching him play growing up. I liked Andre so I have no gripe about him.

When does Tony Gwynn become eligible? Now that guy should be first ballot!

Since Santo wasn't on the ballot, he didn't make it.

I'm sure people are not voting Raines because of the drug charges. Personally Raines stats look far better if he didn't play the last five seasons or so. Great player who held on too long.

From watching both for years, in my opinion Dawson was far superior to Raines. Not even close. I can't understand all the love Raines has gotten for the HOF the past few years. I never considered him HOF material when he played. Had a few big years in the early to mid 80s and never did much afterward, though he hung around forever. I guess Raines compiled some good sabermetrics, or so all the young stat geeks say.

And what of Molitor's drug charges? Same situation, wasn't it?
Raines>>Molitor. One's in, one's not.

Raines hung on 5 years too long. He only has 2600 hits in 23 seasons while Molitor has 3300 hits in 21 seasons. Molitor war very productive at the end too.

Ok. But raines was an above average defensive player, too. Certainly can't say that about molitor.
There's a good article on espn.com about it.
