Everyone's a damn hero these days. How exactly is the pilot of yesterday's US Airways a hero? Is everyone a hero for doing their job now? Don't get me wrong, i'm very glad that everyone made out safely in that accident, but c'mon. Granted he stayed calm and landed the plane well, and i think he deserves a bonus check for surviving a crucial test, but i wouldn't label him a hero. Now if the plane crashed and passengers were out in the river and he were to risk his own life swimming in the river to rescue them, then i'd say he'd be a hero.

A pilot who saves the lives of 150 people from a plane that is going to crash is a hero.

If you're talking about McNabb being a hero for getting Philly to the NFC championship game, then yes the word "hero" is used a loosely.

If you were the pilot 150+ people would be dead. My understanding is this is the first commercial jet airliner to make a water landing and not get anyone killed. Hero.

a horrible post.... here is a guy who landed a plane in a river and saved 155+ and factor in how many of these survivors' families wouldve been impacted... how many kids wouldve lost their mother, father, grandparent, etc... this guy is much more of a hero than say a bill maz who hit a hr to end the world series or any other sports figues PERIOD... this guy is a hero and if u dont think he is u are foolish... u need to really get with life my friend because for u to make a post like that tells me that u are absolutely clueless in life...

The Pilot a Hero and the guys running the Tug Boats for responding so quick if the Plane had sunk, there would have been dead people by the time Divers could have gotten to them. JMO

word def thrown around a lot...especially in the sports world but when a pilot lands a plane on water and 150 people are safe and unharmed he is a hero in my book. I mean when a fireman puts out a fire and drags ten people out of a building thats engulfed in flames is he a hero? According to you hes not...hes just doing his job...cmonnnnnn

Difference is this pilot had just as much to gain by a safe landing as the passengers since he couldnt exactly eject himself out like a fighterpilot would if his plane was going down, on the other hand a fireman actually goes from being into a safe secure area and dives right into to hell on earth with the sole mission of saving lives and minimalizing property damage. No comparison IMO.

hero: a man distinguished by exceptional courage and nobility and strength; "RAF pilots were the heroes of the Battle of Britain"

if you go by the definition no he's not a hero.

Everything's relative. Those passengers probably think he's the greatest hero to ever live.
