3 years $20.5 million= 6.8 million a year for one of the top 5 pitchers in the National league....what an idiot he is. I think he is no doubt a 10 million a year guy. Philly's brass are probably still laughing, I know I am.

Gotta respect a guy for asking himself how much is enough and then taking a deal he is happy with. Could he have gotten more? Definately. I'm sure he knows this too. Classy of him to show the Phils some loyalty and give them a significant hometown discount. Granted the contract does contain some incentives, but regardless it is a steal for the Phils.

I know what your saying. I have this vision of the episode of Seinfeld running through my head...the time Kramer got burned by the hot coffee and as he and his lawyer were being given the offer of free cafe lattes for life...and....as they were about to present the second offer KRAMER JUMPS UP AND SAYS you got a deal!!

Hamels couldn't of got much more at all. Remember, he wasn't going to be a FA anytime soon. All he did was avoid arbitration, which wouldn't yield much more than $6.8M a year. It was a good deal on both sides.

They had him under control. I'm not even sure if he's arbitration eligible yet. If he wasn't, they could have paid him the league minimum or whatever they chose to pay him next year. Then, if they couldn't agree to terms, an arbitrator would determine his salary every year. By doing this, he likely will make the same, maybe a little less than he would have by forcing arbitration every year. Plus, it's all guaranteed now, so if he ends up having a less than stellar next couple of years, he still gets all the money. This happens all the time.

Nobody makes the huge money until they become a free agent. That's when the $20 million a year contract offers come pouring in.

He couldn't have gotten more, and it has nothing to do with loyalty. They had him under control for the next several years, no matter what.

6.5 per for three years is a solid deal for a pitcher with his inexperience.
In 2012 he'll command 15 mil plus per year if healthy.

I think more and more free agents may be on the outside looking in. Times are tough all over. Some guy that is looking for 16 million and not jumping on 10 million that was offered to him today may not get anything at all.

He would have gotten more in three years of back to back to back arbitration but he also could get hurt in that time. A good deal for all here.

The point is he will not be an unrestricted free agent for 3 more years and there for was arbitration eligible.

Some things can not be judged by years alone, but more by how you performed in that time.
He is inexperienced. It has nothing to do with his performance. He is obviously a stud. But he's gonna have to wait until free agency to get 20 mil a season.

Veterans get paid, and young guys have to pay their dues.

Yes, and this is a part of the reason Boras has so far been unable to read the markets as effectively as he once was.
